doh

Lucky ramper didn't get himself sucked in.

Firsttimeflyer 03-14-2014 08:14 AM

Ouch! Ramper position opened up.

SmitteyB 03-14-2014 08:26 AM

Is it a bag of trash or cone?

It was a cone. Now it's just trash scattered all over the ramp getting sucked into engines of planes taxing in and out of the alley.

Once again, you get what you pay for!

BlueMoon 03-14-2014 09:34 AM

Ouch, A company I used to work for never started the APU and left #1 running until they plugged us in, then something like this happened and then we always started the APU before getting to the gate.

I guess and they found it cheaper to run the APU for 5 minutes than replace an engine. Not saying this was the case, quite possible the APU was deferred...

thump 03-14-2014 09:53 AM

LOL, I had seen the pics, but not the video. Nice!

atr42flyer 03-14-2014 09:55 AM

Before I left that place thats what they wanted us to do was leave the apu down and wait for ground power. I kinda figured its only a matter of time before something like this was gonna happen. Now how much have they saved?

SpeedyVagabond 03-14-2014 09:57 AM

It's just amazing that they all scamper and run away. Complete and utter garbage replacing the hard working career folks who loved aviation and were passionate about about the job. Disgusting. . .

What he said! Actually some of the hardest working aviation ground workers are down in Mexico, they take their job very seriously, and most are big fans of aviation.

SebastianDesoto 03-14-2014 10:14 AM

Us airways, operated by republic flying as American Eagle?

Agreed+++

Replacing that cone is going to be expensive.:D

frozenboxhauler 03-14-2014 10:28 AM

It looks like the engine was spooled up but there's NO rotation beacon until a split second prior to the FOD damage. That guy's lucky to be alive!!

this is most likely pulling into the gate after landing (that's why they're putting the cones there). i'm sure the beacon was on the whole time.

To each their own. I would have got the crew's attention and signaled to shut down one. Then I would have explained myself and owned my actions.

who calls it a rotation beacon?

my checklist says red beacon, must be a holdover from the old days when they actually rotated.

atr42flyer 03-14-2014 10:53 AM

watched it again and the red beacon is on the whole time

DirectTo 03-14-2014 11:07 AM

No need to pull them out. Just do a run-up they will self clean. save time so the next flight wont be late.

Hi Spuzzy, the video clip That I can see doesn't show that.
You're right, it should be.

frozenboxhauler 03-14-2014 11:28 AM

Correction

Just went back and looked at it again, first beacon at about 3 seconds and cone at 4 seconds. Better go put my glasses on! ;)
Cheers,
fbh

Whether the beacon was on or not, those engines are screaming loud at idle. It's common sense not to do what he/she did, but the lack of common sense, training, and vigilance played a part in the over all complacency of the ground crew.

Haha. Thanks.

yimke 03-14-2014 12:31 PM

OPS check GOOD! Engine was making loud noise and increasing. Complied with DMIL xxxx.xxx added rubber bushings into #1 engine.
