I have a question?
How many regional pilots are willing to go overseas to make more money. And see what other countries have to offer?
My plans are to go overseas if not hired in the next five years. But if the right opportunity comes I'm leaving tomorrow. |
I'll go overseas when they figure out the public bathroom system.

I would like to vote but I don't not a set that up.

i worked 5 years in both Europe and Asia, but not in aviation. If I didn't have a family here and a spouse with a good job, I would be gone ASAP. The US is in economic decline; it is obvious. The growth is in asia. The rest of the world has a lot to offer if you are willing to adjust your lifestyle somewhat. Pay is higher and taxes are lower, crime is lower in most places, food is cheaper. You would have to give up the monster truck, the AR-15, and Taco Bell if you go. :D

Mod Note:
I have taken the liberty of putting up a poll that the OP apparently wanted to do but didn't know how. The OP can let me know if my options are what he has in mind. Or not. |
Are you asking us if you have a question?

Can I import my mustang?

I have lived and worked in another country. I would not return to that particular country for love nor money. However, the country my wife is from, I would be gone in a flash. For the right conditions of course.

I've spent a limited amount of time living abroad -- 4 years working in the UK, three months working in Japan, and three months working in Malaysia. (None of these were flying jobs.)
The UK was great. But you could not pay me enough to live and work in Japan again. As for Thailand, though, I'd go fly a 172 if they'd pay me to do it in Bangkok  Have spent four months there over five years and just can't wait to go back... |
I trained a lot of European pilots back when I was a CFI and several of them now have airline pilot jobs. I can tell you this: most of them are looking to come back to the USA and work here. The pay is better, but the job security is not. The airline flying that is done in Europe is contract based. Meaning you sign a piece of paper that says you have a job for X amount of months and then its up to the company to decide if you can stay or not. Only ONE of the guys I know was offered an additional contract after the first 18 months. The others go through weeks/months without an interview after their contracts have expired. Its though being an airline pilot over there to start, but if you can fight your way through the brush it seems like it really pays off in the long run.

I left PSA in 2011 to fly corporate overseas, and am still gone. I don't regret it at all.
