Telex 5x5 in the CRJ-200
I was recently given a Telex 5x5 headset and I was wondering if it would work well in the CRJ-200. I have heard that the cockpit is too noisy for it and that I should have dual custom (deep impression) ear pieces made in order for it to work. From those who use the 5x5, are dual ear pieces necessary, or can I get away with one ear piece, and a foam ear plug in the other ear?
Thanks in advance for the advice. |

Thanks in advance for the advice. No experience with the headset itself but I can tell you that the flightdeck in the CRJ is not loud at all. It's not perfect silence but you certainly don't need any elaborate ear protection. Routinely take my headset off above 180 for the duration. |
I wear 750s and have no problem. It doesn't really get loud unless you are going fast, say above 290kts. And with mgnt wanting us to save fuel its rare we are above that. Worst case senerio pop in some earplugs.

I used earplugs with a 750 and it was awesome. Light, comfortable and quiet.
Get these kind: https://www.thesafe-t-store.com/prod...=&bestseller=Y |
ok, well since the 750 works well, then I can only imagine the 5x5 will work even better since I will be using a custom molded earpiece. (to avoid having to use the over-head bridge thingy...not sure what the technical term for it is) Is that safe to assume?

I have seen plenty of guys with the dual ear and they like it. |

The 200 is def a loud aircraft , sure if it's your first jet than some may not have much to compare it too, but it's pretty noisy to me . Telex 850 worked well, and Bose Q fly mike worked even better . No experience with the 5x5 tho.

I've used the 5X5 pro - and I had the dual ear mold made. Works good. Only problem I had to solve was the insanely loud internal airplane sounds (C-chord, GPWS call outs, etc) that blew my head off! I bought a mini volume knob/jack from radio shack and that way I could turn the airplane down and turn the comms up.

The 200 is pretty quiet at 280 or below compared to the other 2 jets I've flown. Above 300 it gets loud quick.

This is all great info. I can't imagine the -200 is louder than the tanker, so I have that going for me. I think I'll try a single ear piece, and go from there. |

Exactly what did you buy? How did it hook up to the headset?

You oughta email the guy, although he's already too much on Bose's radar scope as is. |
I have a 900 class soon & I have the Bose A20's it that overkill of the -900? I already had them from my past job but was wondering if it's worth hauling them around

Thanks for the info thus far! For those of you with the Telex 5x5, did you get a custom ear piece, and if so, was it a regular or deep impression?
