The company is only authorized to use the one brand of mount; Using anything else is technically an opspec violation. The company has sent out emails saying not to use other mounts.

Really? Since when? Or do you mean just own one, 'cause ma bro I ain't wearing a blazer, sweater or leather jacket (or carrying one) to MIA, AUS, SAT in the summer time. Or Chicago either.
You're supposed to always wear one. That isn't to say everyone DOES, but there's always the fun police that will take a picture and write you up behind your back.

Thought it was fairly self explanatory, but I'll walk you through a hypothetical...

Say you arrive at the bar at 4pm for a couple beers and an early dinner, as you have a 6am report in the morning and your company follows the "8 hour" rule. Let's say you have 3-4 beers and are finishing dinner around 6pm...well within your 12 hour rule. Now let's say that for some reason you end up nursing a water and sticking around the bar (hockey game goes to overtime, a buddy you haven't seen in a while arrives later, you're trying to get the cute bartender's number for the next time you're through town, whatever) later than you had intended. Next thing you know, it's 11pm and you're ready to tab out, using your credit card, and call it a night. Not the best decision-making but nothing illegal as you haven't touched a beer in 4 hours and you're still going to get 6 hours of sleep.

Now let's also say some "nosey Nancy" is at the bar and recognizes you at the gate in the morning when you show up to up to fly her flight. Being the self-righteous person that he/she is, they immediately report to the gate agent or even TSA or airport police that they KNOW you have been drinking before the flight. They saw you at the bar *gasp* JUST 7 hours ago! Now, if you find yourself having to refute those claims, you have a credit card transaction with an alcohol sale on it within the legally mandated limit.

Not saying it's an impossible obstacle to overcome but we all know how these things go in the court of public opinion. Without the paper trail, all you have to do is pee in a cup and if you're clean, you're clean. Very little anyone can do to doubt you. But with the paper trail, you just have one more thing you have to defend yourself against.

Thanks. I never ever would have thought of that.

Lots of Dr's kids on her spending lots of $

1. good suitcase pays for its self. I like luggage works. You will replace cheaper bags many times over the lifespan of a Luggage Works bag.
2. Telex 750's are fine... I use half an earplug under mine.. you can get refurbished ones on Ebay for $75 bucks if you're patient. You can spend several hundred bucks on "NA" headsets, but they aren't ever going to be as good as earplugs over a 35 year carrer... No they arent.... Nope.
3. Im serious about the suitcase.

I took everybody's advice and got the Luggageworks Stealth 22", it finally arrived and aside from a sharp, stripped screw, seems good and sturdy. Training center said they wouldn't mind swapping it for one without that problem, so all is well.

Except, one question. What is this doohickey for and is there any way to zip it fully shut? Kind of a strange design.

Isn't that a strap that's supposed to hang from the outside so you can hook your flight case or another case onto and it'll hang in front so you can roll two bags at once?

That's the "J" hook for your flight kit or now laptop bag. It remains outside the bag. Good choice on luggage- I got my luggage works bag 7.5 years ago and I'm just now needing an overhaul on it, but it won't need to be replaced.... just a few parts changed out.

Also works great for tying small children to it and dragging them behind you.

Yep... It's for hooking on your chart case.

Right now I live in Phoenix so getting based here would be fantastic, but with how senior it is we know that pretty much won't happen. A friend told me you bid for three domiciles you'd want in the order you want them. Should I even put Phoenix down, or would it help my chances to get CLT if I made that #1?

Haven't read the whole thread, but couldn't find the time........

ALWAYS bid what you WANT, not what you think you can "get".

Otherwise, you get what you get.

You never know.

I had a friend 30 years ago, when Comair was unheard of by most people, they flew Saabs, Metroliners, and E110 "bandits" ( Embraer twin turbine, under powered, unpressurized, death trap, nowhere near the capabilities of a Beech 99) . The people in his class bid for bases, he bid for seats: Capt Saab, Captain Metro, Capt Bandit. FO Saab, FO Metro, FO Bandit. He was awarded Capt Metroliner. Upgraded A/C, Upgraded Position, nearly double the pay of the rest of his indoc classmates.

You never know, unless you bid for the stars..........but be careful of what you wish for. Make sure you can meet the demands of the surprise!

Thanks for the info, all. If you get a laptop bag, is it intuitive how that connects once you have it? And will any brand connect, or does it need to be Luggageworks?

I was actually thinking about laptops earlier. Would you trust putting one in the Stealth, or should you really get the specialized laptop bag for the extra padding?
