Piedmont is spelled wrong. Other than that, very informative.

Did you mean, Envoy?
I did a chart for Majors too, in the major section, and I was seriously tempted to type America West beside the longest bar:D |
Great chart, thanks for the breakdown.
|
Pretty sure Great Lakes has less than 100 pilots now

I honestly had NO IDEA that there were so few regionals now -- and that "INC" has the lion's share of pilots.

I had no idea Air Whisky and Mesa were so close in size. I always imagined Mesa as a much larger airline.

SkyWest has double the amount of aircraft as Republic (170 vs 352). So either Republic is overstocked with pilots, SkyWest is severly understocked, or something in the middle. Either way there is something fishy there.

Nice job on the chart.
It would be cool to see total number of planes and get an idea of how thick or thin they are crewed. great job |

I've been told that, statistically, there are 4.3 crews per plane.

Silver is 229 as of June, but that number changes monthly.
I like the idea of having a spreadsheet that can be updated by trusted sources and managed by a few. Editorial notes: "GoJet" is one word. Envoy's "2,650" needs a comma. "ExpressJet" is also one word. I'm a stickler, I know. |

Regional side of rah has about 2400 pilots. 3000 includes our friends at frontier.

The LINK should now take you to a spreadsheet that can be directly edited. If you change a number it should automatically reflect in the chart. If you mess up use Command or Control Z to undo. Don't see the real spreadsheet? Force refresh you browser. |
In April, according to an article, Great Lakes had 78 pilots, 6 EMB120, and 28 1900D models.
I like the spreadsheet, any particular reason to divide the pilot number by 10? |

I like the spreadsheet, any particular reason to divide the pilot number by 10? Yes, dividing by 10 creates a bar compatible for comparison with the number of airplanes. When you use the actual number of pilots the aircraft bar becomes way too small. |
OK, WELL THAT LITTLE INTERACTIVE EXERCISE LASTED ALL OF 10 MINUTES BEFORE SOMEONE SABOTAGED IT.
They zero'd out Air Whiskey and Piedmont, and gave PSA all the planes. Classy! Do you feel better now? Luckily I had a backup. :D Now, I've had to take away the ability to edit directly. You can give me changes in this thread, or use the upper right "comments" button on the spreadsheet. If I have an APC screen name to go with the changes, I will personally update the numbers. No screen name, no change! Thanks to everyone who played nice:) |
How do these numbers compare over time (historical) re: right size fleet to crew.
Is the industry short or long on pilots? The ratio of crew to planes after the divide by 10 looks like a useable number (4.3 crews x 2 = 8.6). again looks great. |
Thanks for posting this, it looks good.

Just a nitpick, but how come most everyone can capitalize CommutAir, GoJet and ExpressJet properly....but no one can seem to ever do the same for SkyWest?
Also, according to the latest fact sheet, SkyWest has 344 aircraft (352 unofficially) and ExpressJet is down to exactly 400. SkyWest, Inc. |

The ERJ aircraft information is wrong and doesn't even add up correctly to the total listed. So I don't trust the 400 number or anything else in that "fact" sheet. |
