Default Life Before the Regionals

From time to time I meet a lot of guys who used to do other jobs before the Airlines and even still do these things on a part time basis. I always planned on being a Pilot but didn't major in Aviation. Besides the Airline you guys ever meet anyone or maybe you yourself maintain another professional career outside of Flying?

Quite frankly I don't know how some of these people find the time but I find it pretty admirable. I met a Comair Captain who was a lawyer and another one who was a Nurse.

Military reserves. No schedule conflicts, the airlines just give you the time off that you need. If you can get a flying slot in the air national guard, that would really enhance your airline career....

If you have the talent, you could be a writer (I may try to find out if I have the talent one of these days).

I know a guy who lays tile...he does high-end stuff, and people trust him to be in their home cuz he's a pilot.

At some airlines, you can pick up extra flying, sometimes for 1.5 or even double time.

On some weekends, I play guitar in a little rock band. It makes a few extra dollars, but mostly for fun.
Before aviation, I was a Laboratory Technician at a large gold mining company. I would fire assay the gold bullion samples for purity and other lab tests. It paid much better than my current flying gig, but I had to look at the same four walls every day.

Always been flying for me, although I have almost always had a part time gig, wether at the mall or some other stupid job, its very embaressing when I see people I went to HS with and I am working at the mall, I almost want to scream that I am an airline pilot so they don't think I have failed at life, but then agian they probably would'nt believe me, after all "Don't Airline Pilots make a lot of money" Happy New Year guys, lets all stay focused, I feel we are in for a change, a good one at that !

Also, with all of the CFI's leaving at 600 hours, you could probably get work doing ground or sim instruction. Not sure if the pay would be worth it though.

Rickair is on to something.. If you have a sim training center in your area, they tend to need line qualified instructors. Great way to network as well.

I am thinking about grad school in Washington DC. I have no marketable skills except flying and acting in porn films.
