Think the last I heard was approximately 7 street captains will be hired for Jan 29th class date. Most likely will be based in Boston area for newly acquired EAS routes.

goarmy 01-09-2007 03:13 PM

cool thanks, know anything about SPI-MDW operation, APC says they have a SPI base. That would work best for me......however the BOS thing is not completly out either.....

Yeah, they currently have 8 Capts and 3 FO's in SPI. Rumor is some may want to go to BOS but who knows. I'd say your chances are pretty slim at this point to get into SPI. Guess it just depends on who upgrades and where they want to go and where your seniority # falls if you get hired.

I am applying to a CA position......where are the direct CAs going?

I re-read the above....I didnt mean to sound arrogant....I am just not leaving my job unless I can get a left seat one elsewhere....

Probably Boston. Understood... If you are at a place like Skywest you'd be a fool to run but I have no clue where you are flying the RJ at? There are a lot of changes going on around here especially with this Mair, Mesaba, NWA thing going on with Big Sky attached to the whole thing somehow. We are all guessing at what will happen in the near future:eek: All I know is that BIL and BOI at this point are going pretty senoir, SPI is next and not many at all want to go to Boston. Dont know if other larger airlines have a housing allowance built into their contracts if you live somewhere a lot more expensive than Montana... we don't and living in Boston on even Big Sky captain wages would suck.

I do have some food stamps you can borrow if you promise to pay me back sometime in the next 15 yrs.

mccube5 01-09-2007 05:28 PM

Nick,
Sent in an app to bigsky over the holidays, for an FO position. Sent it in as soon as they won that Boston flying, i'm from the northeast yeah it would be painful to live off of but it can be done. Never heard back from them, any tricks to gettin an interview? If i were to call the office who should i ask for?

goarmy 01-09-2007 06:51 PM

mmm it seems kinda strange.....there were no FO positions online to apply for as of today, 9 Jan...unless I missed them.....i threw one in for CA....I am at AE and no ug in site....If Big Sky doesnt get sold it may be a good PIC oppotunity for me.....but things seem shakey ( at least rumors) with this MAIR thing....

mccube5 01-09-2007 07:08 PM

yeah i was able to apply for the FO right around xmas, haven't really heard anything about the hiring outlook for FO's, obviously you are in a much better position for the DECA thing though, good luck!

goarmy 01-09-2007 07:13 PM

Thanks......but its a risk.....but hey....what isnt .....I guess if it doesnt work out( ie sold by their holding company) ill just to to some other regional. I havent done much research so I dont know much about the situation with MAIR....

Nick....you guys can jumseat uh? Id have to commute ( to the NE) ...I know this would be hell but id have to do it....how much does one on make as a CA? how many hours you running a month? thanks! I guess I am asking....whats the hoursly rate and how many you average a month?

Try the airline profiles section of this very website. Little tab in the top right corner:D How do you guys miss this stuff?

Yes, they are advertising for FO positions on their website, it is just embedded further down on bigskyair.com/retirement. Requirement(which doesn't mean much) is 750/50.

Only thing I know is if you know someone that walks in your stuff and has known or flown with you in the past. Otherwise, just play the waiting game. If you're from the NE, this would look good to them, I guess. Maybe call HR to verify they got your info while planting a seed at the same time.?

Yes, we have jumpseat agreements but no commuter clause in our union contract at this time which sucks. Capts currently start around $36/hr and FO's @ 19/hr with a 72 hour monthly guarantee. The info on this website is accurate... Our schedules are currently between 72 and 80 hrs/mo on avg. Flight time varies a lot throughout the company. I've had 100 hr. months and 0 hr. months. Good luck guys! :D

Just to let you know i'm not some repetative idiot... The previous 2 posts were put up while I was writing this one...

No, you asked what the hourly rates were. I'm not sure why it still says Metro here on the APC profile but I am willing to bet the rates are similar if not identical since the metro and 1900 are the same sized airplane. According to your profile, you are already in the industry so you should know that most pilots at most airlines average 80-100 hours of pay each month. I'm not sure why you can't make that leap of logic to figure out a ballpark number. Good luck bud.

Stop talking down to him, you $(%$'ed up and you know it :D. He wanted to know hourly rates for the 1900 and what the average credit for the lines are. None of that is on the APC web site. I thought it was a pretty valid question, sorry goarmy I can't help though.

spacemonkey 02-05-2007 01:32 PM

So 38$/hr now but possibly down to 30.50?

jagboy69 02-25-2007 10:43 AM

friend of mine just got hired here with 400/~20 multi (Boston)
From what I here, they really need pilots. Anyone know the upgrade time?

Hiring street capts. Upgrade time N/A. Nice name jagboy, quite the antonym to pilot pay.

undsioux1 02-26-2007 10:03 AM

Any info. on training? I believe it is still in Billings, MT. Any chance of staying in the west or is pretty much everyone heading to the east? Do they pay for housing during training as well? Thanks.

mccube5 02-26-2007 11:15 AM

Nick or any other Big Sky pilots,

Would you still recommend calling HR. Just filled out the online app. again. It says on the website no calls please, but what's the worst that could happen? If you think calling would be a good idea do you know who the person to contact would be and at what number?

Nick 02-26-2007 11:24 AM

Groundschool is in Billings... Big Sky pays for the hotel but you will be rooming with another trainee. SIM is in Denver, used to only be at the sim near Centennial Apt. now I guess they're using a SIM in Greeley, CO also. Hotel payed for there also. Pay isn't much from what I can remember, $750 every two weeks but don't quote me on that. As far as new hires, expect to go East for sure... I don't know one guy with any bit of seniority that wants to leave Billings/Boise.

I have no clue if calling HR works or hurts your chances:confused: Guess I wouldn't recommend it but who knows. Best way I know of is to know someone and have them talk to the CP or better yet come to the airport and introduce yourself in person. Guess they're struggling badly to find pilots so you'll probably get called sooner than later:D Sorry i'm so clueless on this subject, guess I prefer to go to work then come home and forget about everything I can;)

mccube5 02-26-2007 12:47 PM

any idea if big sky will be getting any delta bennies (non rev for parents wife etc.) with the new flying out of boston?

bullmechum 02-26-2007 05:29 PM

I Submitted their E-resume form for CA from their web site last night at 11:30pm EST and was called for a March Interview/class, today at 06:30pm EST. Less than 24hrs later.
That’s a record for me. No internal help either. But do have lots of turboprop time.

mccube5 02-26-2007 06:11 PM

are they hurting for CA a lot more than FO's?

Oops . . . putting cart before the horse. Apparently your CEO things he can hire a tone of BE 1900D street captains in Bostons for minimum wage. NOT! I bet if you quiz these new guys, you might be surprised that they will be making more $$$.

Looks like Big Sky is on the slow path to destruction.

ShakenBake 03-02-2007 01:33 PM

I agree with Ellen. The slow circle around the rim of the toilet bowl has begun. Unfortunately, Fred and Craig will taking some very good people down with them.

mccube5 03-02-2007 02:10 PM

Here's how i see how this all might pan out. I tend to think there's more to Nick's comment about them wanting to move everything to the northeast, although it was said as a very passive comment. It does almost seem like they are freeing up planes so that as soon as routes open up they can swoop in and take over. Look at colgan getting the Q's and ridding themselves of the 1900's has to mean that there are certain routes of theirs that will open up.

I know it sux for guys that are from MT and the northwest and thats what appeals to them about Big Sky. But on a bright note, say that Big Sky does end up moving into the northeast, they will be a better replacement than Colgan. Just simply comparing their payscales, you get paid better workin for Big Sky.

It will be interesting to see what Colgan does, but I can definately see someone else taking over some of the existing 1900 routes.

Oh wow...$1/hr.

Not to mention, a lot more stability at Colgan than Big Sky.

Haven't heard from Nick in awhile. He probably got told by management to stop bashing his airline on this website. What are you guys doing now? Are you still doing NE area, or did they leave those cities before they even started since Colgan is getting new Q400's courtesy of Pinnacle?

WhiteH2O 03-20-2007 09:19 PM

Boston is starting April 8th. Supposed to get some two others in the NE area that will open soon (partly from Regions' shutdown). Just bought 8 planes from Ratheon to go to Boston. A Q400 would be too big for most of those routes anyways.
