The real reason they are not giving a flow is because it would spoil the relationship with the pilot group, and "gasp", they might ask for more money....

I have had the opportunity to discuss regional flow with people "in the know" at DAL and I can assure you that the above statement is nowhere near accurate.

Currently DAL has no problem attracting and hiring the people that it feels "fit the mold" to become DAL pilots. When it comes to pilots Delta's primary concern is mainline and the quality of individuals they hire. They also feel that regional feed is easy to come by and will be able to shift flying as needed.

So you send them back to fly Delta passengers, in Delta owned aircraft at a different division of the company. That makes a lot of sense. What exactly did you screen for? You acquired lots of NWA pilots and Western pilots without screening them. I'm just curious why it takes a tougher screening process to fly Delta aircraft with more than 76 seats than it does to fly aircraft with 76 seats or less.
Korean Air, Air France, SkyWest, ASA, RAH, Alaska, Silver , Horizon and a million others also "fly DL passengers" so should we automatically hire all of them without an interview? But wait, SkyWest also "flies United passengers" and Horizon also "flies Alaska passengers" and for that matter, DL "flies Alaska and Air France passengers" so should we all just slide on over anywhere in the industry we want without an interview? Weeeeeeee! Back to reality. Its a different company, period. The sooner you can accept that the happier you will be. We've all heard of the vocal minority at Pinnacle that, after not getting hired at DL, pitched massive fits in public about hating the company etc. Its clear at that point that they should NEVER have been hired there. No injustice, no irony, no travesty. You want a job at any DIFFERENT airline, prepare network and interview for it. Or wait for a flow, etc, that's fine too. But you're NOT entitled to it. Ever. |

The issue at hand is why any RJ pilot should be entitled to skip the rigorous hiring process set by major airlines. It would further cheapen the profession if those highly coveted jobs were just handed out to any idiot regardless of their qualifications. It's a sad but true fact that hiring standards at regionals are not even in the same league as majors.

I have a hard time believing anyone in the know at Delta thinks that is true, if their is plan is to shift all flying to Skywest and another regional at greatly increased costs then maybe they can buy some time. Other than that they are probably a couple months from full on panic mode.

The difference between a bottom tier regional under a bankruptcy contract and a top tier legacy is light years apart. Who on earth would even listen to anyone saying such a stupid thing? Even if they were right, and it was "only a formality" what are they saving by not bringing their A game? A couple weeks of study and prep? A few hundred bucks? How anyone, under any circumstance, could think they can just waltz into a job interview of that magnitide and think "naw man its cool they're just checking the box I'm so money baby" is absolutely laughable. The interview really hasn't changed much in decades. All the gouge is out there. The success rate in general is fairly high and the success rate for those that prepare is very, very high. Walking in cold because you thought someone told you its all good don't worry about it is just ridiculous and inexcusable. |
