Class Dates for SkyWest

Does anyone know when the next class dates for the Bro will be? Also how big is the hiring pool? I was hired in December and am still waiting on a class date for the T-Prop. Thanks for any help!

rickair7777 01-13-2007 02:47 PM

They are not hiring into the bro very much right now; small classes on March 5 and April 2, and a larger one on May 7.

staplefork 01-13-2007 03:16 PM

No febuary class? I read once on here that they where trying to do a class every month but I was unable to get anything out of the girls in the HR dept. Does anyone know the size of the pool? I was under the impression that a class of 12 just finished IOE.

otter 01-13-2007 03:21 PM

Look for one next month. They keep taking EMB FO's at a larger rate than excepted.

staplefork 01-13-2007 04:08 PM

Thanks otter, could you tell me as to how soon before a class should i expect notice that i have been placed into a class? When I was hired they told us that there was 20 people in the pool and since then I have only been told of one class going through. So would reason expect that i would be able to go to the next class or is there a non-standard pecking order to this pool?

A couple questions for recent SkyWest interviewees and people already there...

How long from online app to an interview call? Anyone get the call without going to the group interview?

Is the 120 upgrade still staying low? If so is it going to continue to be short?

Thanks!

App to call can vary from hours to weeks. If you are 121, you might get called same day without going to the open house, likewise if someone walks your resume in.

If you don't have 121 time or extensive turbine time, go to a group interview.

The EMB upgrade will probably stay low as long as there is all this jet growth. A lot of jet and bro FO's decide just to wait a few more months for the jet upgrade rather than do the bro upgrade and get seat-locked. If you want, it's yours (if you have the time).

Cardinal 01-13-2007 06:19 PM

They said the Brasilia pool is all but empty, with the majority of poolees headed to the January EMB class, with the remaining 8 going to the March 5 class. For the record, next available CRJ class Feb 12th.

Not 100% sure on how long they'll give you. I'm sure it would be at least two weeks notice. As for a pecking order, no idea. Since the EBM is the junior aircraft, they typically put CFI type pilots on to it. Not to be rude but, if your a CFI your basicly equal to all other CFI's. So I'm not sure if there needs to be a pecking order. Skywest is a great place, it's worth the wait. The EBM is a fun plane to fly. Welcome!!!!

staplefork 01-13-2007 07:13 PM

Otter,
No offense taken, just wated to know what to expect. Sorry to sound like an newbie, but this is my first 121 job and I am trying to learn as much of the ropes as i can so as to stay a head of the game so to speak. And yes i am a CFI or rather was. Thanks for your encouragement any words of wisdom for the EMB?

This is what they told us on Wed the 10th when I went to the open house in Chicago. Most people are going to be in the CRJ. The next class coming up is Jan 22 with new classes starting every three weeks after that. Upgrade time are to stay low and CRJ upgrade will be coming down by there forcasts as well. They need pilots for all there new routes (Mexico and Midwest flying) and airplanes they are getting (At least 3 a month). They are also losing at least 22 a month to the majors. The fastest way to an interview is an open house or job fair. I saw there schedule when I made my interview date and they are busy with job interviews and job fairs right now so it may take a little time for them to call if you applied online. :)

I'm current 121 and have been for some time, my app has been submitted since 1/1 and no response yet. We'll have to wait and see...

I have plenty of prior crew turboprop PIC (Part 135). So I would really like to go after the Bro upgrade. I figure a year in the left seat of the Bro can't be that bad.

Here's to hoping for that call soon...

Freightpuppy 01-13-2007 09:12 PM

You are a 727 FO and you want to go to Skywest? Not that that's bad but it's just an odd move. Do you not have 1000 PIC turbine or something?

avi8tor4life 01-13-2007 09:43 PM

ok here's the gig. I'm still waiting on my 6 months till I can reapply to skywest. I've studied like crazy and have been flying my pants off. Should I go back for a group interview or just email HR? Also my interview date was Sept 25th. Do I have to wait till March 25th which would be EXACTLY 6 months or do I just have to wait till March 1? Cause remember 6 months by 121 standards:

Whenever a crewmember or aircraft dispatcher who is required to take recurrent training, a flight check, or a competency check, takes the check or completes the training in the calendar month before or after the month in which that training or check is required, he/she is considered to have taken or completed it in the calendar month in which it was required.(14 CFR 121.401)

So would March 1, or even Febuary count as my six months?
Any ideas?

I think it is to the day, HR isn't required to use 121 rules,

Since you already interviewed, you essentially have preferential treatment for your next interview (unless you did something REALLY bad on the first one). Call HR 2-3 weeks prior to your 6 month date, and tell them you would like to re-interview and hopefully they can get you in the first interview after your 6 months is up.

Maybe they're a little slow recovering from the holidays?

If you know someone at SKW, have him/her walk your resume in...that should get you a call.

If not, you should go to a group interview at some. How long you wait is up to you...with your experience I would still think they will call you on their own.

Note: It is very likely that they will put you in the jet. You can take the bro upgrade from the right seat of the jet, but if you know you want the bro for sure ask them if they can hire you into it. A little right seat time first would make the upgrade easier.

I have 750 PIC turbine all part 135 in a Shorts, and it doesn't seem that I'll be upgrading here anytime soon. Top that off with not liking the schedule and low pay, I'm ready to move on. I have no 121 PIC and even if I did upgrade here, it would take me atleast 2 possibly 3 years of flying to get 1000 hours in the left seat.

The relatively quick upgrade on the EMB has me thinking this might be a good move.

That's what I was thinking, I'm sure my app will make it to the top of the stack eventually.

I was going to try to go to the group interview in ORD, but had a family thing that conflicted. And the rest of my month is toast with work.

I have about 500 hours of prior CRJ time, so I'm sure they would really like to put me in the jet. I was thinking what you said too, that some FO time in the Bro would help once my number came up for the upgrade.

Thanks for all the insight....keep it comin!

SNAwannabe 01-17-2007 09:29 PM

For what its worth, I'm in the same boat...I got the "you're hired" fedex package early December and have been waiting for a class date as well. I've also heard from internal pilots that the next class date, as stated above, for the bro is March 5th. Just waiting for the official word from HR. Anyways, see you in class in March, hopefully :)

Notice

So those of you that interviewed recently, how long did you have to wait for the results? I interviewed last week and am getting a little impatient:confused: . Thanks for any info.:D

hatetobreakit2u 01-18-2007 09:10 PM

yeah i interview the 9th, and am still waitng, my freind interviwed the 8th and is still waiting. but another friend interviewed the 1st week in january and heard exactly one week later. im assuming the long weekend is why there a little slow sending our letters out?

twheel 01-19-2007 04:25 AM

Thanks for the response! I interviewed the 11th and I’ve got a big problem. I’ve got an offer from another company and I have to let them know today. I’d much rather work for SkyWest but if I didn’t pass the interview I need to take this other offer. If I don’t let them know today I’ve blown my chances with them. At the interview SkyWest made it clear that they would notify us…. In other words, “don’t call us, we’ll call you.” What can I do? Anybody know who I could call or e-mail to find out if I passed the interview? I don’t want to **** anyone off but I’m in a bind here. Any suggestions would be great!

Me three, I interviewed on the 8th and still haven't heard. Who was your friend, it seemed like a great group on the 8th. PM me if you want.

Call Cassidy or Camielle. Camielle is probably not there but if you explain your situation to Cassidy she might fess up.

Tell the current company "yes", then when skywest calls with the good news, call them back if you aren't in ground school yet or just leave ground school for skywest. I've known several who have left mesa's ground school and gone to skywest and were in that situation. Look out for you first; screw the other airline.

What if you're just impatient... like me.... how long till I can call without seeming too anxious? Its been 11 days... they said 5-10... i figure by 15 I should call. Any advice?

It's not unheard of to get lost in the shuffle. When I got hired they left me hanging for a few weeks. When they finally did call, they said, "I'm sorry, but we are gonna have to push your class back a few weeks, because it's full." I said, "so does that mean I'm hired then?" She said oh yea, they didn't tell you already?
So I guess the moral of the story is, papers get lost, and the communication between everyone there isn't perfect. Give them a call.

twheel 01-19-2007 02:23 PM

Thanks for the help. I took care of it. Good luck to everyone!

yes but to have 4 people who have all been waiting to miraculously run across each other on the same board, get all lost in the shuffle probably not. i think there just running behind on EVERYTHING. i heard they dont want to be called unlesss oyu have an extreme situation like the kid with another job offer, but if you do call and they give you an answer over the phone, and dont sound ****ed that you did call, then let me know

twheel 01-19-2007 06:44 PM

I sent an e-mail explaining my situation and got a call back. She was very polite and gave me the info I needed but she also made it clear that she only called because of my situation. She didn’t come right out and say it, but she heavily implied that they really don’t like people bugging them unless it is an emergency. Luckily, she agreed that my situation was. Not only did the other company want an answer today, but they also wanted me to sign a training contract to back it up. Not that it matters, I disagree with the logic of accepting the other offer and leaving class a week into it to go to another company. Something about professional courtesy. I know you have to do what is best for you but people should still consider the money that the company is spending on you for training. I wouldn’t have left the other company in the middle of training. It’s bad enough that I told them “no” three days before class was to start. Anyway, I’ll get off the soap box. Good luck to everyone waiting! I hope to meet you in class soon! :D

Oh, and I don't think anyone got lost in the mix. They are just busy because of the holiday. I'm sure you'll know next week sometime.

ANPBird 01-19-2007 08:44 PM

I will be in SLC on Wednesday for an interview with them. If I hear anything will give you a post. As I said earlier, I have seen there schedule at the Chicago job fair and they are doing one to two fairs a week along with a hefty interview schedule. I am sure their a little backed up at the moment. If I hear any news on classes, ect. I will pass it on!

SlingAir 01-20-2007 08:50 AM

Just wait

I ended up calling, my work needed to make a February schedule and that put me in a bind. They needed to know by Friday night if I had the job or if I could be on the schedule. I called, she was really nice, however she is really busy, and does not need to be bothered unless it's critical.

So just wait, packages will be sent soon.

Congrats to all and see you on the line!

reelbigchair 01-20-2007 08:53 AM

In case anyone is curious, I just read a memo from the DEN chief pilot that stated that our pilot hiring will be 70 pilots every three weeks for the forseeable future. This is in contrast to the memo I got from another chief pilot not quite a month ago with much lower numbers than that. But we are extremely short staffed and I think 70 is probably what they want. The only problem I see with it is that they may not be able to fill that many seats.

TonyWilliams 01-20-2007 07:13 PM

Class dates upcoming for Skywest are Feb 12 (CRJ) and Mar 5 (EMB).

I hope to be in the Feb 12 class... just interviewed on Thurday, Jan 18.

tcraft 01-27-2007 05:13 AM

TonyWilliams,
Just curious to hear if you have heard anything back from them yet. I had my interview on the 17th and haven't heard a thing thus far. Just getting anxious i guess. Thanks!

The class for the EMB is already full if everyone in the pool shows up for class. There still filling spots for the CRJ 12th class. They wouldn't say how many people are already in it. If you get a FedEx package soon you should be in the CRJ. Let us know when you hear something and how long you had to wait. This is worse than the interview, Waiting! ..... Waiting! ........ Waiting!.......

How big are these classes on average? In other words, how many people will they put in each class?

Also, when is the next CRJ class after 2/12?

thx.

3/5 for CRJ new hire. Last word was 25, but who knows, it might be larger.

That is B.S. How about informing candidates in a timely fashion, then there aren't emergencies. I've experienced a number of airline recruitment processes, and never have I been told of a likely class date and then watched 14 days prior to said date come and go without word. How hard is it to call/email your newhires?

Yo tcraft - I interviewed on the 17th as well and I received an e-mail on Tuesday with the offer to start on the 12th. I am still waiting for the Fedex package, but it does look like I will be in Salt Lake on the 12th. You might want to call and find out what is going on. Good luck.
