Seniority
Does it start when hired or does it start on day 1 of indoc? I'm assuming most companies have policy that seniority starts when the pilot shows up for training?
|
Indoc is usually the first thing they teach you. So you're basically asking if seniority is assigned on day one or day two.
|
To clarify, I'm wondering if seniority starts when training begins.

Your hire date is Day Two. In-class seniority is determined by date of birth.
|
Actually there are a handfull that still do it by social.
|
I've also heard it starts when training is started. With some guys now being sent to the CPC to get the ATP knocked out, then their seniority may be set up differently at that point.
|
Oh, sorry, my bad. To the OP: your question depends on what company you're talking about. My answer above was specific to Mesa. (Brain fart on my part, thought this was in the Mesa thread.)

How do some do this with social? Is it the lowest last digit or ?
And for birthdays, is it oldest in the class or whoever has the earliest birthday? Thanks! |

Why? That sounds like the fairest possible way. Anything else is age discrimination.

It would be easy to manipulate, and no way to ensure that it is done fairly. Why not just play "guess what number I am thinking of"?
|
I'll also suggest that any former employee should automatically be given preference.

If you're younger than 40, it's perfectly legal to discriminate against you on the basis of age.
A HR person or recruiter could offer it to a candidate - we'll put you in the top 5 if you......... Oh, his dad is a Captain here, put him first (or last). She is the only female pilot, put her first. This guy is 60 years old, put him last. All of those things could easily happen when a nameless/faceless HR person or administrative assistant "randomly" picks the order on a computer. Draw names out of a hat on the first day of class...at least that is more likely to be fair. |
Just shuffle a deck of cards and have them each pick one on the 1st day of class.
