Am I missing out?
As my username implies I am a student at UND. After spending some time at the program here I am beginning to think that my time would be better spent getting a degree in something other than commercial aviation. The main concern I have is that if I transfer to another school and recieve my flight training at a local fbo will I be in a worse off position that if I stayed here? Assuming all things are equal would an airline be more willing to take an UND grad over a non grad?

Get a degree in something other than aviation, you never know what is going to happen down the road.
Big name colleges, flight schools, etc. want you to think you'll get a job easier with their name on you resume, but you won't.

Transfer to ASU or FSU immediately, you are missing out on chicks going to class in bikini tops! The airlines don't care where you get your degree or ratings. Go where ever makes you happy! Enjoy college, you'll be working the rest of your life!

Best not to put all of your eggs inone basket.
You can fly no matter what your degree is in. It is always a good idea to broaden your horizons! Maybe you will not like everything that goes with being a pilot. Sometimes u have 2 do something to find out it is not what u want to do after all.
Pilot life is hard on family life.
Best wishes!

You are all a depressing bunch on this site. I never hear anyone saying how great it is to get paid to do what you love and not have to bust your butt daily doing physical labor 10 hours a day. The airlines have gotten screwed since 9/11 but look at the big picture and realize that your life isn't that bad as a pilot. Everyone knows that the airline industry is cyclical and it will come back around eventually, it's just taken a bit longer this time.
Don't let the guys on this site bring your aviation spirit down. I have an aviation degree and I would not go back and change it. Aviation was the only thing that I was interested in. If I had gone to school for biology or something like that I would have been bored and unmotivated because I could care less about biology and I probably wouldn't have done as well as I did.
Last issue, I think having UND, Purdue, Western Michigan, or that other school on your resume does matter. Why do you think most regionals have two sets of minimums. One set for people from a particular school and one set for everyone else. The quality of your training is huge to an airline because they want to make sure there is a good chance that you won't fail training. Going to a "pilot factory" means that everyone is getting somewhat the same training and hopefully the same quality of pilot will emerge. The first question I got when I did my phone interview was where did I go to school. Next was did I complete the CRJ course, so I think it does matter. Just my opinon, take it for what it's worth.
