O yea, they have the highest pay in the regionals to date and a managment that treats the pilots better than any other regional that I've ever heard of. Yea, I think Colgan would have been the place to go. Steer clear of XJT because they actually had the balls to tell their biggest dependent that they didn't need them and lost a few airplanes.

Ok so there's a new bump in the road. I was talking to the bossman today about a few trips we have planned in the merlin this month. He said, "The Merlin might being going bye bye". Turns out he's about 90% sure he's going to get a Citation II. If he does I'd have the option to fly. He told me a few months ago if I stayed around he'd send me to flight safety for the Merlin so I could only assume he'd do the same with the Citation. Worth hanging around for or is the 300-400hrs a year in it not worth it compared to a regional?

Always be careful about ASSuming in this bidness. If he does send you to flight safety, if you do qualify for insurance, if he does pay you more, and if you get to be PIC then it might be a very good idea to stay. It just all depends on what you want to do with yourself down the road. Just be aware that if you want to eventually go to some airline, get on with that airline ASAP....literally. This is when the seniority lecture comes into play.

True. Good thoughts.

Sounds like you've been thinking a lot about it, which is more than many people do.

With the possibility of your boss getting a Citation, this is beginning to sound like an airline/corporate crossroads decision to me. So, perhaps the first priority is to try to decide which you would rather do. If the choice is airlines, I am more of the school of thought to get on with a 121 carrier as soon as possible. While most everyone tends to think the regionals will still be hiring in 6 months, you never know in this business. Plus, if you do wait, choosing where the "good" place to be will not be any easier. The Cathay SO idea sounded interesting, definitely worth a look. Prioritize, explore, and make the leap. Best of luck.
