Default Where should my aimpoint be

Hello all,

My first post in the forums after lurking a while, be kind. Looking for more opinions from people who have been out there a while.

I'm coming out of the military with around 2500 hrs jet/turbine PIC time and getting my ATP done "soon", but I have almost no manned flight time in the last 5 years. What kind of aimpoint should I have, regarding which companies will work with? I'm currently in Vegas and would prefer to not move too many times before finding someplace I'm happy with long term, but of course I'll do what I gotta do.

I've talked to friends with similar backgrounds as mine but I'm also very interested in hearing what others have to say.

Thx in advance!

About 1000 feet from end of the runway.

How are you getting the ATP done? Do you have the written done? If not, are you aware of what it takes to get the written done today?

You don't need the ATP certificate to get on with a regional, they'll give that to you when you take your type rating check ride. You do however need an ATP written. Some regionals will also pay to have you get the written done.

More to follow pending your answer.

Fighter or fatty driver? Just pick a west coast regional with short reserve. Dont pay for an ATP. Regionals will cover it for you. PM me if you want.

Far away from this industry. It's not as great as it looks/sounds.

Everyone will prefer recency of experience, but not all will require it. If nothing else, jump in a 172 and log a few hours doing instrument approaches to bring yourself up to speed.

Is your APT written complete prior to 1 Aug 14? If not, then you will require attendance at an ATP-CTP course, which most regionals will pay for; some will insist on a contract for that, though, so ask. Some don't pay wages during ATP-CTP, some do. Pretty much all I know of pays for travel and hotel to and from ATP-CTP.

Where do you want to live? What is your age? (If 50 or older, this limits the time you have to get your 121 time in before moving up)

Lots of questions need to be addressed, but stick with it, ignore the childish BS on here, and you will get your answers eventually. Lots of us former military types on here, there is also a military sub-forum: Military - Airline Pilot Central Forums

Best of luck!!

You may have luck with Allegiant and they have a Vegas base. You could also check out EG&G, I heard they were hiring recently but I don't know what they are looking for.

Otherwise, go to a regional and get your ATP for free and some currency.

I'm in the same position. 2300hrs, 3 years out of the cockpit. Right now the Regionals and Overseas ISR gigs are the options that seem not to have issues with a lack of flight currency. Check out who is a 1 leg commute from Vegas and start there. The ISR gigs allow you to live anywhere in the US usually.

Fighters. I have my ATP written done, just need the practical. I've got that lined up at a "reasonable" cost, attempting to avoid payback contracts. Been there done that with USAF, bad decision, won't repeat...

Seems also that I'm one of only a couple people not using an obviously anonymous forum name so I'll probably re-attack later with a different username after I see what comes from this thread. So don't think I'm ungrateful if you don't see anything else from this account after this thread runs its course Great replies so far, need to PM a few people already, thx!
