Well, we are both juniors at ERAU majoring in Aeronautical Science (Pilot), minoring in WX. But, the good news is, We are both going to be CFI's and getting our Dispatcher licenses. I think that should give some good fall backs for medical and family life purposes. What do ya think??? Kinda late to change majors now!! :)

I once met a husband/wife Airbus couple (she was the capt, he was the F/O) on a crewbus at Memphis. Seemed like a very nice couple, bid trips together and ran a vineyard (I think) when not flying. Everything seemed great. Of course, I'd hate to see the fur fly in the house if he ever bid off that pairing! "Oh, gee, honey, looks like I've got Vegas all this month...(nervous laughter)...not sure how that happened..."

I am wondering if there are any husband and wife full-time pilots out there. My girlfriend and I are both attending Embry-Riddle Prescott as aspiring commercial pilots. We both love to fly and have always wanted to be airline pilots. We have been dating for 2+ years and I would love to marry her. I worry about the QOL down the road though. I know that the first years will probably be the worst always being away from each other. I also know that how much time we get to spend together on a month to month bases will depend on our luck in the scheduling department. She is from DFW and I am from SMF. My wife and I have been together for 15 years and both flying full time for 7. We were hired together @ AWA and even ended up as sim partners. We have a 3 1/2 year old an one on the way. The time away from each other is hard but the common background is great when you have a problem or funny story to relate. We have had a nanny for the last three years and that has worked out pretty well. It is definately not a life for everyone but it has worked for us. The best advise that I could offer would be to try and live where one of you is based. We both commute and it's a serious pain.

As far as staying together and flying....yeah, do it. You will both finish around the same time, and Riddle needs instructors bad....I believe they even removed the 200 dual given requirement. So instruct at riddle for a bit, date another year or two...move to a regional together, etc etc. I would try to stay away from DFW though...I was just based there for a month and a half....the US is nice and kinda somewhat sort of big.....explore it! For the young part of your life, try to get hired with the same companies so you have about the same schedules / domiciles...and then when she gets enough flight time, have her get a nice job at fed ex / ups / major / nice corporate gig, and you can be a stay at home husband =) -Imp |
