SkyHigh you always say your goal is to inform those that don't have the information needed to make a good choice. To inform those that believe the advertisments of living the grand life as an FO that the life really isn't like that... I get that. But just like in your past post you go beyond that. You say intentionally on a self destructive path. Shouldn't what you mean to say be, "those who are well informed and chose their way"? You aren't here JUST to inform those who you feel need it. You're here to tell everyone they're on the wrong path whether they've prepared for it their whole life or simply read about it in a magazine or watched top gun and got an itch.

You're more like a negative evangalist lol. I do like the fact you're posting though. If it was just all roses here there would be visitors that might not get a rounded perception.

In the post you were referring to I was addressing previous exchanges that speeder and I have had in the past. I do however feel that informed pilots often throw logic to the wind in order to pursue selfish desires.; as such, I think it is accurate to describe that behavior as "self destructive". It is foolish to invest as much as it takes in education, certification and experience to get the return that is currently being offered.

If you were to meet me in person I am much more mild mannered than when I post here. It seems to me that it takes strong and colorful language in order to get a point across in an online forum. As always I only post what I believe.

In addition some of the stuff I write is meant to be taken as a bit of humor. I forget that not everyone "gets" most of my subtle dry jokes.

Yes... Yes it is... But it's fun and when you're times almost up you can look back and say "being an accountant would definitily made more sense, but that would have sucked" :D

As I have said before

What really would suck would to be living in poverty as an old man and looking back on a life of bland hotel rooms, empty apartments, empty life and bank accounts.

Accountants do the job because they receive a significant benefit in return.

There is a price for everything. An aviation life is expensive on many levels.

And rewarding on many levels as well. Someone asked me the other day, if I could re-do college, would I major in the same thing, and choose the same career path...

The honest answer is I dont know. I love flying...and I love getting paid to do it. Not sure I would be as happy doing the 8-5 crap sitting in an office all day.

Self destructive, hmm. Lets think for a moment. I furthered my education, I am living my dream, i am happier now then i ever was, my family is benefiting from this, I am going to make more money then my previous job field would ever think about, and I did it all by investing well and using my profits to pay for it. Sky High i think it is you that is self destructing because your thoughts on this industry don't prove correct as often as you would hope.

Might be a little harsh on that one. Maybe he doesnt/didnt want the lifestyle that comes with a pilot. I am faced many times with the choice of pilot over family, and 100% I am going with the family. This is a propaganda industry, both sides, and yes there is a down side to being a pilot. The pay sucks for 90% of the people in it, dont kid yourself into thinking that express jet and the likes are going to be able to pay what they do know down the road....if you think that is the case, look back five years ago and tell me the top regional airlines, and where they stand right now....Anyone remember ACA...some of you might not have been born yet, but they no longer exist, and that was the place to be...in other words, and words that skyhigh doesnt use, "DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!", please also submit a list of airline captains that you know, from majors, and please include the number of marriages and furloughs, its not all it is cracked up to be....yeah we get to see alot of cool places, but its usually alone, or with an FO and a flight attendant named Bryan, share that with your kid, mine would call me gay.

There are many other great choices besides the 9 to 5. Flying is fun and is great to do on a Saturday, but to rest your future upon it is very unwise.

Well hes gotta point there, I mean this is the most unstable industry out there, not to mention you could be the best pilot flying for an airline with 15,000 hrs and get furloughed only to get on with another airline behind people with years and years, as well as thousands of hours less than you, and you are beneath them, that is rediculous, we should all have ALPA senioriry numbers :)

Something like that would add value to a pilot career for sure.
