American Eagle or Comair?

Im interviewing with both of them in then next two weeks. I am going to have to move to which ever base I will be assigned since I live in San Jose. Which would you choose?

I have been to both, personally the funnest flying I have had was with eagle but that was a long time ago, in MIA. The company is stable, animosity with mainline but which regional isn't with their partner. Longer upgrades but again, experience and stability for what its worth.
As for Comair, I highly discourage anyone from coming here right now. LOTS AND LOTS of attrition, now that may mean quicker upgrade than eagle but domiciles are horrible...JFK you will go, and changes too many to name here. Many good pilots with great seniority leaving by the ten fold giving up lots and a pretty good salary. That is a clue to the conditions here right now. These conditions have existed for quite some time and will continue for quite some time. Eagle, you have LAX (although senior i am sure) DFW ORD MIA and I think BOS not certain and of course "The Rock" In my opnion, for state of mind, I would highly recommend Eagle. Thats just me.

Do both airlines make you sign training contracts? I interviewed with Skywest but was told to come back in 6 months. Was thinking I might even if I do get hired somewhere else.

I think eagle has a training contract, don't know about comair (but I doubt it).

SKW does not have one...not many FO's making lateral moves out of SKW.

Comair does not have a training contract.

Eagle doesn't have a training contract. That is a fact, I work for Eagle and there is no contract. The previous post about Eagle are correct. It is a very stable company and there will definitely be some movement in the near future. I believe they offer the highest pay during training although you have to share a room with another newhire. They are also allowing you to know your domicile before the start of classs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

What's been the upgrade time in the EMJ? Still hovering around 10 years or so?

Also, how are the work rules:

a. What is the reserve call out time
b. How does overblock work, per leg or per day
c. What hotels do you guys typically stay in
d. Do you get 100% DHD pay
e. Minimum days off per month (line/reserve)

I would also like to know how long to be on reserve for both.

KiloAlpha,

Upgrade is still long, but now that AA is recalling and the flowbacks are going to leave, upgrade should get much shorter.

a. What is the reserve call out time
2 hours from sign in.

b. How does overblock work, per leg or per day
Paid greater of scheduled or actual block per leg.

c. What hotels do you guys typically stay in
Holliday Inn, La Quinta, Hampton Inn, Rennaisance, etc.

d. Do you get 100% DHD pay
No, only 75%

e. Minimum days off per month (line/reserve)
Reserve and composite lines minimum 11 days off. Hard lines are 12-19 days off.

Hope this helps.
