Some of those deductions would be disallowed in an audit. Uniform items that are usable outside of work (e.g., shoes, socks, belt) aren't deductible.

Some dumb FA decided to represent herself in tax court over deductible expenses for flight crews and lost spectacularly. The result is that a lot of what used to be deductible no longer is.

Do you have a link to this story?

I'm not a tax atty. or accountant, DYODD, etc. but if your airline says you have to wear a certain type of shoe, or a certain type of belt, and that company doesn't provide said items, those items should be deductible as I understand it.

Luggage works bag

Wanted to chime in on luggage works.

Bought my first one 20 years ago. It lasted 10 years. Then my second one lasted about 5 years. My third one was a disaster. Zipper handles all busted off and stripped zippers and a frame that was like a 1985 Hyundai, the screws and assembly just crap. I emailed twice and called twice and they didn't even respond.
It was a good company until LW took over. Samsonite from now on or I'll explore anything else.
Thanks for the rant!

I've used a travel pro for 8 years now. Pretty early on I replaced the stock wheels with some nice roller blade wheels. A few years ago I replaced the telescoping handle under warranty. Other than that everything is still functional and it has held up very well.

Currently using LW had to replace one wheel after about a year and most screws need to be tightened. Just went past 2 years I think it'll last about 2 more years.

Strongbags. A little bit taller but still 22'' and fits in CRJ bins.

My tax guy says claim everything possible, and I definitely do. It gets me a good chunk back every year. Who cares about an audit...I had one a few years ago and it was a non-event. People worry too much 😀
