Coming to the end of the training delays, not quite as overstaffed as we were 3 months ago, and AFAIK, the earliest available classes are in December. Maybe someone else can chime in and say whether or not we’re actively hiring right now.

Yes, we have been picking up a lot of United flying from other Regionals lately due to manning shortages elsewhere. Don't confuse that with permanently picking up more flying, as that is not the case here. This is just temporary.

I've been hearing out on the line they're hiring classes for February/March 2020 if you get a CJO today.

I asked a recruiter a couple of weeks ago and they said everything is on a waitlist. No classes are being filled at this point. They can't say with any certainty at this point where classes are out to because: A) they don't know how big the classes will be; and B) what their retention will be of the people currently on the waitlist.

They aren't interviewing anyone with more than two checkride failures.

Not to mention that LIFT Academy should be sending some CFIs to Indoc and getting some students close to CFI in about years. Also have cadets as well. OTS hires are very selective from what I can tell.

I was told no FOs are coming on until Q3 this year but to stay in touch in the meantime.

The first CFIs will be in class next month, and the first students are about a year out from mins, but with 250 students per year, when that pipeline starts flowing it will drastically cut down on off the street hiring.

I haven’t even interviewed yet, but got an email yesterday saying they probably won’t interview until possibly next month.... I’ve been getting that email since February.... so I don’t think much is moving yet.

Let’s put it this way. I interviewed in December. Got an offer January 2nd. They said October but probably sooner. Now it appears the LIFT people are bumping me back for an official CJO and class date. Yesterday I was told that October is still a possibility. But that’s all that was communicated to me. It is pretty frustrating.

Live in KC. So it’s the only regional that has KC base. Not a must, but definitely wanted a live in base coming from corporate side of things. I’ve got other interviews set up.

I highly recommend getting on the seniority bus as quickly as possible. Get on somewhere else and reevaluate the decision to come to Republic as your class date with Republic approaches.

If your goal is to get up and out then some discomfort (I.e. commuting) may be beneficial.

Yeah. I decided on Skywest and one other tbd right now. It sucks because being the only KC base it made it an easy decision. Now starting the process all over from scratch 6 months later is a PITA.

WN is the ultimate goal, but didn’t want to hate life for 3-4 years commuting.

Like I said some discomfort from commuting may make force you to not be complacent. This is part of the reason we have a lot of lifers. Republic is by no means a bad place to be, but you’re putting you career on hold right now and lowering your final career earnings.

What regional would you guys recommend? I'm in NY, waiting on YX class date. Endeavor is backed up like crazy. Envoy's pay is not the greatest and bad reserve rules, low pilot morale. It leaves me stuck between Skywest and Expessjet.

YX LGA is going to be the measuring stick in NY. Shortest reserve (although not as short as it used to be) combined with the best work rules out of all 3 options make it hard to beat. XJT has the CPP with United, so that might be worth a look. Otherwise, I can't really comment on the state of affairs over there at the present.

Envoy is a dumpster fire...the pay sucks, the trips suck, the work rules suck, and reserve is the pit of despair there. Most of their NY trips are designed mostly for commuters, so there isn't a huge advantage to living in base for them other than not having to commute at all - unless you're at the top of the seniority list. And like you mentioned, their pilot group is a bit restless right now. Their NY flying fluctuates wildly up and down from month-to-month, and recently, they've been heavily hiring into the 175 ORD and even DFW. You'll be seat locked for 2 years into that, so if you don't want to commute, that might not be a good option. The flow is hovering around 7 years, so odds of you punching the time clock at another regional and not making an upward move before then are pretty low vs waiting out the 7 years. But it's a guaranteed seat nonetheless.

And like you said, 9E has YX problems with backups in training. Once you get through, long reserve, much of it hot reserve at first, make things a little more precarious as well. Sitting at home on reserve is a whole lot better than sitting in the crew room for 8 hours a day if you decide to wait out a class date at either 9E or YX...

There isn't a perfect regional. They all have their ups and downs, and some are clearly better than others. You just have to decide what's most important to you. If getting flight time the quickest is best for you, then Skywest is probably the best option. If living in base QOL is most important to you, then I'd wait out for YX. If getting to mainline (United) the quickest, I'd take a hard look at XJT right now. If you're just a glutton for punishment and possibly want to look at commuting from a base to another base for years, ENY is right for you.

Only makes it faster to get to the near constant ready reserve at the bottom of the reserve seniority list; though. The bottom 10 or so in each seat get hit hard, and with movement as slow as it is now, some guys and gals might be sitting 50+ days ready reserve the first half of 2019.

To clarify that - the equipment lock is until you upgrade, not 2 years. And however small the chance of getting all-175 class is, it is real.

FWIW any LIFT people going to Republic now had a CJO from Republic BEFORE they started as a CFI at LIFT. That means the guys going now had a CJO as early as June.

They were all CFIs somewhere else, interviewed, were offered CJOs and then were offered jobs as CFIs at LIFT until ATP mins.
