Default Thoughts on an SDF base opening?

Hey Guys,
Just wondering how realistic the possibility of Republic opening an SDF pilot base? They seem to overnight quite a few planes and also have the maintenance base here as well.

Thanks

Hopefully never. We don’t really need to fracture our flying any further.

SDF base closed a few years back. It won’t reopen. Aircraft overnight there to force work for the mtc hangar which the company has long term tax incentives from the local govt to keep open.

Default SDF Base

I was told by one of the instructors during training that if the company were to open SDF as a base, it would be at the expense of ORD. The union basically told the company its either SDF or ORD.

The last thing this company needs is another freaking outstation.

I highly doubt that the teamsters have any real pull with company decisions. If there’s a buck to be saved, it shall be done. I’m honestly surprised we still have an ORD base. The last time I passed through it was Skywest jets everywhere.

ORD and IAH are still open for recruiting purposes only. If ORD and IAH weren’t options on paper there’s no way RPA could actually compete with Skywest recruiting. I’m shocked they closed SDF instead of passing the buck along to their employees like they do in IND and CMH. Republic is and always will be the outstation airline. If you want Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, basically any major hub besides NY east of the Mississippi there’s almost no reason to come here.

Really, they opened IAH for recruiting purposed only? Please expand on that comment a little more. What makes you think they opened it for recruiting purposes only? I doubt that IAH was the only reason I decided to join Republic. Even if IAH closed, I would stay.

Unless you live in/near a major hub city, why would anyone want that? Cost of living is far more than outstations if you wanted to live in base AND commuting to hubs is a lot harder. Having outstation bases is an advantage over other regionals.

^^^ this.

Move to a outstation and you will have excellent QOL at republic. Commute to a hub when you get to a legacy/southwest. Republic will never get rid of the outstation model, because it saves them money. If you don’t like outstations, then don’t bid for them. We have more gun bases then outstation bases anyways.

We have many long SDF overnights, so even if you aren’t based there, you could still get a bunch of extra time at home. Also IND is a short drive, and many do it.
