Default Why Republic?

Ok, I'm new to this APC game and haven't seen if this has been posted anywhere yet. But, why Republic?

What does Republic offer that is SO much better than the other regionals? Why do we have FO's waiting a year for a class date? That's absurd. Sure, our contract is decent and QOL is ok for a regional, but it's still comical the way this company operates.

ORD has literally been obliterated, IAH is a joke... 30 captains nearly 2 years after opening. IAH and ORD are clearly only recruiting tools. Add MIA to that list. Every single hub is shrinking to what a freaking outstation should look like. Meanwhile CMH and IND have nearly QUADRUPLE the pilots as IAH and ORD. Republic is truly the east coast airline and the way they've shrunk major hubs in the midwest only proves it. Unless it affects IND, CMH or NY this company couldn't seem to care less. Once an FO upgrades it's NY or bust. Have fun in LGA.

I know regionals are just a stepping stone, but unless you live in an outstation or NY there's literally zero reason to choose YX. Envoy, Skywest, and Endeavor can provide so much more than this place. Sad. I don't post this to bash RPA. It's a GREAT regional for those that live in the aforementioned bases. I just want every young pilot to know what they're getting in to, if you chose Republic you will be handcuffed to the east coast your entire time here.

Yea I mean it’s probably been talked about on this forum quite a bit. It’s frustrating sure that we’ve never had a consistent presence west of the Mississippi, especially since Skywest is truly coast to coast now. But I think young pilots come here knowing that. If they want base options they go to OO. If they want a solid contract they go to YX. As far as the year wait, I think that’s manufactured. The cadets, college students, whatever are factored in to that. So yea of course the college students with a CFI job are going to wait a year. They don’t have the time and Republic is guaranteeing them a spot when they do. As far as the guys that are ATP eligible I’d say it’s a wash. Skywest, Envoy, Endeavor have all had long waits and have stopped hiring at some point.

It’s the regionals. Nothing’s perfect and the majority of us don’t plan on staying here long term. If an outstation is for you, go to Republic. If wide base options are for you go to Skywest. If a guaranteed spot is for you go to Envoy. Everyone makes decisions for different reasons, just be happy YX is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, regional in the US.

Just before emerging from the BK, Bedford stated that RJET would be a smaller, leaner airline and the stakeholder's regional of choice in the Northeast corridor.

People don’t understand that many of those who are waiting for class for a year won’t have 1500 hours until that time. They are hiring people who are 12 months from ATP mins, so these people have to wait because they need the time.

Republic isn’t a bad place to work while you build a resume to go elsewhere. Or you can stay here too and make more than most of the population. We are better compensated, work less than our counter parts, and work less hard when you compare equipment and routes. 2-3 legs a day are average, at least in my 3.5 year experience. Also, the small city bases are attractive to people who are willing to move and live in an affordable area. We also offer large bases to NY locals like myself.

This isn’t a fluke. Lots of people are coming here for these reasons and I have yet to fly with an FO who regretted coming here.

Lololololol. You sound like a whiney FO that got hired without doing any research whatsoever because you thought you’d only be here for a couple months before making the “jump” to the majors. 🙄🙄🙄

There’s so many incorrect statements in this ridiculous post. I upgraded directly into MCI, where I live and have a great QOL. But yeah, I’ll “have fun in LGA.” Cool story bro.

If you're so new to APC, head over to the Envoy, Skywest, or Endeavor forums (or just about another other regional's forum) and see what they're talking about. I can promise you the grass ain't always greener. Things are about as good as it gets at the regional level here. Do we have problems? Yes, however ours are pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.
