Not in the way I think you're asking the question.
There have been CA vacancies after every bid for the last several months (probably more like year) so if you came in, had the qualifications which at the moment is 2500 hours and 1000 part 121 hours, you could bid for CA right out of FO training. (well after ioe anyway)

With the new contract, assuming it's approved this month, that possibility will be unlikely. We're dropping the 2,500 total hour requirement which will make a lot of FO's immediately eligible for upgrade. There's a few other incentives in there as well. So, my prognostication is it likely won't be possible to get a CA award as a Jr FO after October. If the contract doesn't pass though...all bets are off.

Nothing like waiting for a class date on the precipice of major changes. It's a double edged sword.

How long is the average upgrade time at Republic? How many hours do you guys generally fly per year?

Upgrade time is as soon as you reach the legal minimum (generally 1000 hours part 121 time). Reserve FOs are barely flying, but once you’re a lineholder you can fly 80-90 hours if
you want, depending on how you bid.

They want you to upgrade ASAP, which is going to be right at 1000 hours 121 if you want to. Min guarantee is 75 hours a month, I'd say most FOs are flying 70/month and most CAs are flying around 85/month.

That ain’t even close. Captains are flying more than that and line holders on the fo side are shrinking because they are losing lines. Off ioe my friend has flown 35 hrs in just under 3 months and if you’re a reservist not consolidating expect to fly a bit less than that. 10-15 hrs a month. If you’re a line holder then yeah you might be doing around 70-75 but reserve is about a year out right now.

Avg FO line is 90+. I know multiple FO that all out hr threshold at 75 hrs including myself an we’re awarded 90+. Capt lines in the company are avg 88. Revserve is interesting because the number arnt accurate. Reserves arnt flying because they are dropping there reserve days when the schedule opens. I’ve called CS on my day off before for red flag an they gave me a trip in ORD where they have no reserves.

I know someone on month 3 out of ioe and hasn’t dropped any reserve because he lives in base and only gets called once every 5 ish weeks. Averaging less than 15hrs a month. Another coming up on 9 months of reserve and averages a little more than 20 hours again doesn’t drop reserve. Of course line holders are going to get more hours. They build lines to utilize the pilot close to their 75hrs mmg if it’s less then they waste money since they have to pay the pilot for those additional hours regardless. If it’s more those are likely flights and lines they have to pay out of pocket for the overage that they are ready paying someone else for not flying. So yeah line holders will be close to the 75 but being a line holder is a fairly long ways out especially when you consider reservists are rarely being used for now.

My bad, I was thinking of lineholders. Yes, there are a lot of FOs sitting on reserve and not flying. Depends heavily on your base and timing on when you came in.
