February, Junior line holders in each with no MIL VAC or Training listed on their schedule. On reserve, you'll get exactly 12 days off.
BOS Day Off: 14 76 Credit
CMH Day Off: 16 78 Credit
DCA Day Off: 15 87 Credit
EWR Day Off: 15 87 Credit
IAH Day Off: 16 83 Credit
IND Day Off: 15 77 Credit
LGA Day Off: 16 84 Credit
MCI Day Off: 16 77 Credit
MIA Day Off: 15 83 Credit
ORD Day Off: 16 92 Credit
PHL Day Off: 16 80 Credit
PIT Day Off: 17 82 Credit
SDF Day Off: 15 81 Credit

Obviously this changes month to month but this is probably pretty typical. We also don't know what these folks bid for a threshold.

If on reserve you only get 12 days off a month.

Anyone had any time during layovers of days off to work on a College Degree while being a Republic pilot?

Just curious if it conflicts a lot or not

You'll have more time as an Airline pilot to work on a degree then any other full time job. You just need to have the motivation and wherewithal to do it during your days off and in your hotel room. A lot of pilots have done it.

Great info

Hey GHawk
Any chance you could give the same Info for BOS?

I'm trying to make my mind up weather to join Republic or stay out west with a Part135. Recently moved to RI though so thats a factor for sure

IND is generally pretty well-staffed. Looks like the junior lineholders are 1/19 hires and are seeing 14-16 days off with 70-90 block hours. There are also pretty junior guys with almost 100 hours block and 12 days off or 17 days off blocking low 70s. It's mostly up to their bidding preference.

Junior lineholder in SDF is a 9/19 hire, probably a month or two out of training. Similar days off as IND but maybe slightly more productive trips? Looks like the guys that are willing to pick up the shorter trips (generally non-commuters) are, as you would expect, able to hold more days off with more flying. I hope this helps!

No problem! Junior BOS lineholder is a 9/19 hire and the junior lines are seeing 12-17 days off, crediting 80-100 hours. The general consensus is that BOS will be growing and potentially be one of the larger bases in the not so distant future. Good luck on your decision!

Thanks for the information GHawk. Republic is high on my list when I am ready to make the move to the regionals. Any information on for IAH?

Thanks

IAH fluctuates as far as wait times on getting there out of training. One thing is for certain, don't expect any growth there. Lines will stay the same if not decrease in the future.

With a better idea on what degree you are seeking would allow a better answer, but....most often when I am asked about this in class, my advice is to get serious and commit to a program after your first 12 months of employment. In that time frame you will be working on getting settled into airline life. While I do not think most of line flying is too difficult, there is a lot of new things you will see that establishes your new normal. In that first year, find a subject that you are truly passionate about. When you do that, course work becomes a journey for knowledge and not just completing assignments on time and something to pad your resume. That will also help pick out the best fitting higher education institution.

In the online enviroment i cannot speak to undergraduate programs but there are dozens of online graduate programs. Every semester, I have students that are flying the line and completing course work at the same time. I do not see positive results after about six credits each semester. I have had a couple line flying grad students that try take 9 hours, but their work suffers and quality goes down and low motivation to their course creeps in and compounds.

If anyone else would want my opinions, I will be happy to share. I have seen positive trends that students are thinking beyond the immediate future and putting plans together to do something else if they cannot or will not fly anymore. With the flight student and student loan burdens can box you into a corner.

Hope it helps
Reeves

Junior lineholder is a 10/18 hire. Junior lines range from 13-18 days off and 76-98 hours credit.
