Furloughs Official

The first round of furloughs has officially started, which is odd considering Tpinks said there WON’T be any chance of furloughs.

March 8th: “There is really no point in talking about it because it WON’T happen.” -Tpinks

I’m sorry to anyone that took advice from that statement.

Furloughs have started

New thread since the other threads aren't really relevant

68 pilots furloughed today (all hadn't completed training)

30 dispatchers furloughed yesterday

5% of non-crew employees laid off last week

The Treasury required anyone requesting more than $100m in payroll assistance to give some sort of collateral for the money. In addition, the Treasury is requiring airlines to pay back a portion of that (aka a loan)

The CARES act Subtitle B is the portion that deals with the payroll grants for air carriers.

SEC. 4114. REQUIRED ASSURANCES.
(a) In General.—To be eligible for financial assistance under this subtitle, an air carrier or contractor shall enter into an agreement with the Secretary, or otherwise certify in such form and manner as the Secretary shall prescribe, that the air carrier or contractor shall—

(1) refrain from conducting involuntary furloughs or reducing pay rates and benefits until September 30, 2020;
However its my understanding since part of the payroll grant money is actually a loan, the company believes they can furlough up to 10% of the workforce. Subtitle A governs this and says the following

(2) LOANS AND LOAN GUARANTEES .—The Secretary may enter into agreements to make loans or loan guarantees to 1 or more eligible businesses under paragraphs (1), (2) and (3) of subsection (b) if the Secretary determines that, in the Secretary’s discretion—

(G) the agreement provides that, until September 30, 2020, the eligible business shall maintain its employment levels as of March 24, 2020, to the extent practicable, and in any case shall not reduce its employment levels by more than 10 percent from the levels on such date;
Republic has still not received CARES money afaik. Last update we heard was that the shareholders had to approve a change to the corporate structure or something.

Pure speculation, but I believe management has either been told they can get rid of employees by their legal team or the Treasury and still get the CARES money. I seriously doubt they would jeopardize that large amount of money and have gone through the process of changing corporate governance if they weren't serious.

but in my opinion, the pot of money that the money comes out of is governed by the rules for that pot of money. If our $200m~ comes out of the Subtitle B pot, then we must "refrain from involuntary furloughs".

“First round of furloughs” LOL. All these new hires were still in the schoolhouse, didn’t even make it to sims yet. Anyone could have seen this coming considering every other regional airline has done the same. No line pilots have been furloughed.

No. Not every other regional. Just you and Skywest.

Btw. Real classy to LOL when a bunch of your fellow pilots are furloughed.

Nope, Skywest is still paying those sent home from training.
