Furloughs Official

The first round of furloughs has officially started, which is odd considering Tpinks said there WON’T be any chance of furloughs.

March 8th: “There is really no point in talking about it because it WON’T happen.” -Tpinks

I’m sorry to anyone that took advice from that statement.

Furloughs have started

New thread since the other threads aren't really relevant

68 pilots furloughed today (all hadn't completed training)

30 dispatchers furloughed yesterday

5% of non-crew employees laid off last week

The Treasury required anyone requesting more than $100m in payroll assistance to give some sort of collateral for the money. In addition, the Treasury is requiring airlines to pay back a portion of that (aka a loan)

The CARES act Subtitle B is the portion that deals with the payroll grants for air carriers.

SEC. 4114. REQUIRED ASSURANCES.
(a) In General.—To be eligible for financial assistance under this subtitle, an air carrier or contractor shall enter into an agreement with the Secretary, or otherwise certify in such form and manner as the Secretary shall prescribe, that the air carrier or contractor shall—

(1) refrain from conducting involuntary furloughs or reducing pay rates and benefits until September 30, 2020;
However its my understanding since part of the payroll grant money is actually a loan, the company believes they can furlough up to 10% of the workforce. Subtitle A governs this and says the following

(2) LOANS AND LOAN GUARANTEES .—The Secretary may enter into agreements to make loans or loan guarantees to 1 or more eligible businesses under paragraphs (1), (2) and (3) of subsection (b) if the Secretary determines that, in the Secretary’s discretion—

(G) the agreement provides that, until September 30, 2020, the eligible business shall maintain its employment levels as of March 24, 2020, to the extent practicable, and in any case shall not reduce its employment levels by more than 10 percent from the levels on such date;
Republic has still not received CARES money afaik. Last update we heard was that the shareholders had to approve a change to the corporate structure or something.

Pure speculation, but I believe management has either been told they can get rid of employees by their legal team or the Treasury and still get the CARES money. I seriously doubt they would jeopardize that large amount of money and have gone through the process of changing corporate governance if they weren't serious.

but in my opinion, the pot of money that the money comes out of is governed by the rules for that pot of money. If our $200m~ comes out of the Subtitle B pot, then we must "refrain from involuntary furloughs".

“First round of furloughs” LOL. All these new hires were still in the schoolhouse, didn’t even make it to sims yet. Anyone could have seen this coming considering every other regional airline has done the same. No line pilots have been furloughed.

No. Not every other regional. Just you and Skywest.

Btw. Real classy to LOL when a bunch of your fellow pilots are furloughed.

How many furloughs? More than one round?

Coming from the guy that downplayed this virus and the effects it would have in the first place. And you continue to downplay it. Furloughs are furloughs, bud. Glad you think so highly of those pilots that “didn’t even make it to sims yet.” Wow.

SeeYa 04-29-2020 12:52 PM

That's unfortunate, hopefully they realize it was a mistake and hire them back quickly

As one of the furloughed pilots; It sucks. It ****ing sucks to lose everything you have been working towards for the past 5 years. But we will make it through, it will be okay. I just hope that this move doesnt impact the CARES act, because then hundreds of pilots would also be losing their jobs.

First off, I’m sorry this happened. I can’t imagine being in your situation. And secondly, you’re right. If this ********s the CARES Act, you can kiss three fourths of the company goodbye.

You sure? My buddy had zero income and had to file for unemployment. He was 9 days from checkride.

I think there was some uncertainty about their status at first.

OO does not consider pilot trainees as employees, so they most likely initially sent them home without pay.

As the CARES act criteria became clear, I think they decided they would need to keep paying them in order to retain their eligibility. May have been a missed paycheck in there, but I'm pretty sure they should be on the payroll from now until 01 Oct.

I wouldn't give OO too much credit, they just didn't want to try to split hairs with congress over the exact definition of "furlough".

Flying101 04-29-2020 02:59 PM

Unfortunately CARE Act allows 10% furlough... complete BS if you ask me!! Sorry to hear some of you folks got furloughed.

The LOL was referring to the OP, nothing to do with the pilots that were furloughed. If you knew this guys post history about RPA on a regular basis and his attitude on the line you’d understand.

Air Wisconsin is still finishing out all their new hires and getting them line qualified with no furloughs.

Condolences to your new hires and I hope the cuts don’t go any deeper.

This website has an article from Jet Set Airline News about the furlough and mentions some social media posts by employees. Also discusses why Republic may be ineligible for C.A.R.E.S. act $$ due to corporate governance restrictions put in place after the last bankruptcy.

Ha. Please do tell more.

I’ll admit my post history could be perceived in a negative way. I try to be realistic, but understand that some people can take that as being pessimistic. As for whatever you mean by my “attitude on the line,” I think you have the wrong person. Maybe not. But I guarantee my attitude or integrity would never be questioned by those who actually know me.

Initially they weren't being compensated but the company started paying them probably because they had to for the stimulus package. I'm not sure what they are being paid but it probably isn't much.

In this thread: KCAviator gives himself a high five for being “kinda” right, and celebrates the announcement at the expense of his fellow pilots. Because some random dude on the internet made a comment he didn’t like about 2 months ago.

How, exactly, am I celebrating? Now you’re just making things up because a random dude on the internet (me) made a comment (or two or ten) that you didn’t like. Good lord 🙄🙄

Because instead of making it about the furlough, sending well wishes to those who were affected, and offering some semblance of positivity to the board - you instead chose to spend more than half of your OP focusing on a random comment that was made two months ago.

You’ve been waiting for this moment since then, and now you’ve got your chance to pound your chest and gloat about being right. At least that’s the way it comes across.

Get lost. Better yet, the two of you need to just shack up. Reading both of your negative BS every. single. day. is tiresome and infuriating. Both of you go out of your way to bring negativity to this board and your fellow pilots reading these threads. I do not and will not ever understand that mindset. Perhaps you don’t even realize that’s what you’re doing. Maybe some introspection would help.

I see you take no responsibility for your own negativity with your holier than thou attitude. You are the one being negative by going after people and getting involved in discussions that don't involve you.

My posts have been nothing but factual. You just don't like what they say. Welcome to the real world kid, not everything is bought by dad and taught by Riddle.

Again, pot meet kettle.

Well, first, you don't know anything about me - much less where I trained or how it was paid for.

Second, you remind me of the classic bitter sports fan. The guy who is maybe a fan of some lowly program like Mississippi State or the Cleveland Browns - who, year after year, is painfully disappointed by their expectations. So, they develop this defense mechanism of spewing negativity towards their team non-stop. That way, when they are inevitably let down, they have prepared themselves mentally for it before it happens and can at least have the bragging rights of "I told you so." At some point along the way, it seems you have been deeply hurt by the aviation industry - and you feel like it's unfair that others haven't experience that same disappointment and hurt. I'm sorry that happened to you, truly. However, coming onto a public forum and dragging down anyone who will listen is not the answer.

I've pointed it out several times, but your style of negativity doesn't help anyone. It serves no purpose other than to bring people down. Be better. For everyone's sake, please be better.

meitnerium 04-30-2020 06:12 AM

Let’s be honest, starting a thread about how a random guy on the internet said there won’t be any furloughs and proving him wrong seems like a waste of time.

Anyways, I’ve got friends who were sent home during training before IOE and it does suck. They were CFIs and now they have to find work at the flight school that is already saturated with CFIs with no demand right now. We are all at a loss of words during this time and don’t need to be hostile. But then again this is APC...

You seem to struggle with understanding what this phrase means.

Regardless, I think you'd be a more joyful individual if you spent your time building people up. You can't live your entire life wallowing around in self pity hoping to bring everyone else down with you. Go fly for fun or something. Take a road trip. Go fishing. Be better.

No, I've got the right person.

https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/s...rchid=11577522

The same guy who spent a month attempting to ostracize a new hire for attempting to start a blog - even going as far as to call the guy a "clown," and still hasn't bothered to offer an apology to the guy for the way you treated him. Yep. That's the one.

Be better.

Wrong. I wasn't criticizing the guy for starting a blog, I was asking where the updates were. Huge difference, try to get your facts straight. Also, almost immediately you white knighted your way into that making it a bigger deal then it was just like what you did in this thread. Again, you at the source of contention on these boards but yet you think you are above it all. Time to look in the mirror, Pot.
