Yeah ATL and CLT have been the popular ones lately. Contractually, we should already have a crew room at CLT based on the number of departures.

I was expecting CLT opening to immediately follow the MIA closing announcement. Since they went ahead with the displacements and the costs involved, I don’t see anything opening for a long time.

RAH had like 5 flights a day out of ATL before Covid. ATL base would make way more sense now that it would have then.

This. Bedford literally said his vision for Republic is a niche regional in the northeast. What you see is what you get with Republic. Outstations and NY. The fact that ZERO vacancies were posted in Chicago after Miami closed even tho the flying keeps increasing there should tell anyone everything they need to know about that airline. With other regionals starting to hire now idk why any of our furloughed guys and gals are hanging around. We’ve heard NOTHING from management. It’s actually pathetic at this point. I hate to be this pessimistic, but at this point I think it’s just reality.

If you’re one of our furloughs (or even very junior) and you’re not applying at 9E, you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice.

This is disappointing for sure. Lots of announcements and movement happening in the industry, would be nice to get any sort of outlook on moving forward. The recruiters don't know anything either, seems like things take a bit to get moving so with nothing being announced is super discouraging.

You are correct. You need the growth to get that PIC turbine. The key to any job. Then you can apply anywhere across the spectrum.
As an aside, this is a fantastic time to do a Guard initial commitment with things in flux. You could be in a great spot as things ramp up.
I watched a couple of young people leaving their CFI type jobs for regionals. Just a stroke of luck, had a PSA captain on JS. I had no good advice, he was loaded with Intel. He told me PSA and Envoy had already completed a huge surge, and tell kids to go to Piedmont. Piedmont was currently all Dash 8. That's a hard sell, but the Dash is a great airplane and a complex one. The ones who went to Piedmont upgraded quickly, flew an expanding jet fleet, and moved on. Some with flow, others to FedEx.
Dont pick your job based on the fancy RJ. Or the base. Look for the move to the left seat quickly. Get to a major, then get selective on your base.

Choose Wisely

I’ll bite, I guess. This will probably upset some folks, but I’m typically a negative person and this thread could maybe use an anecdotal positive story.

4+ years ago I came over from the bizjet world and picked my regional based off a base (oh god oh no, what could I have been thinking?!?!!!) and their contract. Figured if stuff hit the fan, this was the place I’d like to be stuck, even knowing that my base had been rumored to close literally the month after it opened. It makes a decent commuter hub, and I wasn’t (still am not) about to move my family for a regional.

Here we are. My base (finally) closed in November, I got displaced (almost twice actually). I’ve been two legging it since then, until this last week when a daily nonstop came back. Cool beans.

I spent 3 of these last four years driving to work, 1.5 or so of them almost entirely at home on reserve after I upgraded in just under the advertised 2.5yr they were quoting when I interviewed (guess they guessed right). I spent most of 2019 and just about all of 2020 getting paid to paint my garage, wrench on cars, enjoy my family, fly GA for fun, and smoke a heck of a lot of meat while making decent money and having a great contract (for a regional... the reserve language can be pretty meh) when I needed it. Took SVB for a couple months, but otherwise, just plain ole reserve.

Luckily due to my union and a bit of good timing on my hire date, and whatever good juju I had going for me, I managed to get though this last year without a pay cut. I came close to the LFL the first couple months but was always above it. I know and recognize that not everyone was that lucky, but I also know that I’m not alone.

If I had it to do over again? Yeah. I’d still be here. It’s not perfect, but it beats what many others in this industry got handed in the last 12 months.

I thought delta was going to start attacking Miami hard before covid hit. More flights, more connections, more hub like to compete with American. I think that’s on hold. Last year I would put money on atl opening up. Clt has had more departures per day for years that the pilot contract says we open a base up. I bet with JetBlue and American flying republic gets a jfk base.

The contract doesn’t specify a base needs to be opened, it says we need a crew room. This has been an issue for years. And for some reason it still isn’t resolved.

The B6/AAL deal decreases regional flying out of NYC, that’s kind of the whole point of it
