Currently how far out are the class dates?

Hello Everyone!

I got a phone call from Republic yesterday asking if I’m still interested in the First Officer position. I told them I am and they said they will have a recruiter reach out to me. How far out are they scheduling interviews? Also I am wondering if hired today how far out are the class dates? I’m trying to get on ASAP.

Thanks,
duckman

Claxstarr 09-04-2021 07:03 AM

I’m just glad you started and entirely new thread for that question.
This is a topic that definitely isn’t being covered elsewhere. [emoji1689][emoji41]

I got the same call very curious

BigDawg122 09-04-2021 10:25 AM

I got the same call, and I have the in-person interview scheduled next week lol. The recruiter I talked to in my screening told me that there isn't much backup for classdates, you could probably get one within a month maybe 2 of hire. That's significantly better than any other operation I'm familiar with right now.

duckman 09-04-2021 07:40 PM

I appreciate the heads up. Good luck!
Thanks again,

Interviewed last week, they said they may have a few slots in September but most people that were ready to be hired were being put in October classes

Adding to this thread since my post count is low:

Received a phone call last week, but couldn’t take it since I was flying. Voicemail said if you’re still interested in the FO position email us at the recruiting email. I did so, and now it’s been a week with no follow up.

Any advice on who to contact or how to proceed? Calling the number back just goes straight to voicemail.

Thanks

Hello Everyone!

I got a phone call from Republic Thursday 09/02 about whether I am still interested in the First Officer position. I still haven’t heard anything yet from recruiting. Have any of you heard anything yet and if so how long from that phone call to when Recruiting called you?

Thank you,
duckman

BlockO 09-09-2021 04:25 PM

Same

Same. I was flying, so I couldn’t pick up. It’s been two weeks for me. Will send out another email tomorrow to the one provided in the vm

BuckleUp 09-17-2021 06:15 AM

Anyone get anything back from them yet? I hit them with another email saying I'm still interested but nothing, going on about 2 weeks now.

Who are you guys emailing?

BuckleUp 09-17-2021 04:11 PM

The voicemail send to contact [email protected].

BuckleUp 09-17-2021 04:13 PM

The voicemail send to contact PilotRecruitment(at)rjet

BuckleUp 09-18-2021 06:39 AM

The voicemail said to contact the main recruiting email: pilot recruitment at rjet. Wish there would’ve been a callback number just to get some general info even if they’re not quite ready for us.

Try [email protected]

If that doesn’t work, let me know.

BuckleUp 09-18-2021 09:34 AM

Will do, I’ll give it a try Monday morning.

Sorry for the spam lol, posts were getting stopped for mod approval. Thought it was because I was listing an email address, and my resulting attempts to get around it. At least my post count is up now!

BigDawg122 09-19-2021 07:39 AM

As of September 2021, class dates are currently being offered for 1-1.5 months after successful interview. You can choose a later date if you need more time, up to 6 months out.

ConOrion 09-19-2021 01:53 PM

Took two weeks from interview to get an email to schedule a call. I think they're just really busy right now. No news, could be ok news.

BlockO 09-21-2021 08:52 AM

My timeline thus far

Applied Aug 11th

First call regarding interest in the FO position (which I was not able to pick up) - Sept 1st

Got an email to schedule my phone screen - Sept 20th

They might be calling people today as I got a call(10am)today to see if I was interested in the FO position. Seems to be calling people for the phone screen. Had to let her know I scheduled the phone screen already and that was it.

Not sure if this info helps anyone, but I guess some info is better than none. Ha!

Yep that's basically my experience. Applied on Aug 8, they called while I was flying on Sept 1st stating to email back with my interest. Yesterday they finally called again asking if I was still interested and if I hit my times. The woman I spoke to didn't seem to have a lot of information as I asked if she had an estimate for when the next call/email would be and she had no idea. I guess it's progress. Sounds like we're in the same boat though BlockO, although I never received a phone screen email.

BlockO 09-22-2021 01:09 PM

Hang in there

Was trying to pm you, but I don’t have sufficient posts yet.

Ran into quite a few republic pilots on a social event I went to this past weekend and two were in the hiring panel. Both stated that they are short staffed on the hiring side of things as quiet a few were let go during Covid.

The recruiter that called me was S(didn’t want to give out her name) and the email I got was from K - basically click on a link and set your phone screen(seems to be about 5-7 days out from the email). Both essentially seem to be recruiters by title, but might be in charge of different tasks in hiring. Hang in there. It’s only a matter of time.

For those familiar with the phone screen process; is it pretty much a get to know you kinda thing or anything technical that I would want to brush up on? Thanks in advance.

Nothing technical. What is your aviation background, any accidents, etc. Should not last more than a couple minutes. After that they'll send an email to open a link and schedule your face to face interview.

BlockO 09-30-2021 08:57 AM

Thanks for the info flybub.

Phone screen was done last Fri. Interview is scheduled for mid Oct(I choose those dates as it gave me time to study and prep for the interview).

A few questions.

For Jr pilots what would be the avg credit? I would assume it’s base and bid awarded, but just trying to gauge pay est.

To piggy back on a ques that was asked before to see if it’s been updated- how far out are class dates if you already have the flight time? Still about two months out?

And lastly, what your favorite/ least favorite part about republic?

peaches 09-30-2021 03:09 PM

Interviewed Aug 24 took three weeks (seems quite uncommon) to hear back with an offer. Nov 9 class [emoji41]

Wow! Three weeks? I would like to give at least 2 weeks at my current place before leaving. Sigh

Is that the earliest class date they were able to give you?

peaches 09-30-2021 07:10 PM

Currently how far out are the class dates?

It took three weeks from my interview until they sent me the offer. I still have over a month until class. That was the earliest they gave me. They are hiring like crazy full classes starting every Tuesday.

Min credit is 75 hrs. You can usually pick up on days off and right now at 200% pay, (can't count on that though) I would guess you could easily credit 80-85, I've heard of a lot of folks doing closer to 100, but again, changes all the time.

I'll leave that to someone else, unless you've been hired recently or work in Talent Acquisition or training (neither is true for me),.....it's just rumor.

So far, the best thing to me has been the work rules vs a lot of the other regional players and the people I've worked with, mostly great folks and fun to spend a couple days with.
Least favorite, probably reserve duty, unfortunately a necessary evil for the new folks. We do have good work rules even here though, and it's pretty tolerable if you're lucky enough to live in base.

The others have been answered, but I'll give my thoughts on this one.

Favorite

-Far and away the people. We have a great bunch of guys and gals throughout the company, and they almost always make coming to work fun and easy.
-The contract. Don't get me wrong, we are due a new one, and there are some glaring issues that need to be addressed (see below), but compared to most of our regional peers, we have it really good.
-The plane. This one has nothing to do with underwing engine time or anything else egotistical. It's an easy, modern plane to fly. I came to Republic with nothing but piston time, and the largest plane I'd flown was a Baron. I felt our training (also a positive) adequately prepared me to be a line pilot, and the plane does so many things to make your life easier, especially as you get used to it. The only more abstract thing the plane has going for it is because of its size, its mission is different from other regional jets. We spend lots of time flying to secondary cities (major, metropolitan areas) as opposed to tertiary, small destinations. For some, this might mean more fun on overnights, but that's a personal preference.

Least Favorite

-Commuter Rules/Culture. Obviously it doesn't apply if you live in base, but this airline is not set up for commuters. The outstation base model means it's harder to get to base (more two leg commutes), and the associated flying at those bases means early starts and late finishes, which aren't commutable. Our commuter rules in the contract don't really do much in the way of offsetting this, except to give you 4 instances in a rolling 12 month period to avoid an occurrence (disciplinary action, 8 can get you fired).
-Current Scheduling Environment. We are being abused by scheduling right now while we're short-staffed. I suspect this isn't unique to us, but it's still unfortunate. Holding a line means nothing, because they'll reassign you without mercy. I've been reassigned out of two overnights at home this year alone. Can be very demoralizing.
-Management. This needs some explanation, because I don't think it's especially unique to Republic. I'll also say that I think we have very good, savvy, competent businesspeople in charge at Republic. They are good at what they do. But like with any corporation (and I've worked at some that are 15 times as large as Republic), you don't matter as an individual. You are a number, and nobody will do anything for you just because it's the good, decent thing to do. The exception to this would be our Chief Pilot. If you come to her with a real need, she will work with you, individually. She's a real asset and we're lucky to have her. But just accept that you can and will be abused to the extent the contract allows, and they'll try to go beyond the contract, intentionally or otherwise, which means a thorough knowledge of our contract is to your benefit.

I'll close by saying I don't think many of the negatives to Republic are unique to them, and I'm virtually certain most anyone else at any company would have similar things to say. But it is important to be aware of, especially if it's a first job in a corporate environment. It can be shocking to people if they're not aware of it.

Overall, it could genuinely be (and is) a lot worse at lots of other places.

I interviewed 21SEP and was given a CJO 28SEP for a 14DEC class date.

Even on the flight in for the interview, the polite, professional, "family" atmosphere with the aircrews was apparent (or maybe SDF crews are that way, but I doubt it).

BlockO 10-04-2021 08:37 AM

Thanks Web, Longhorn and Noworries for taking the time to reply. I seriously appreciate it. I’ve been a bit anxious about the interview even though it’s two weeks out, but info like this def puts my mind at ease.

Looking fwd to the interview and till then over been going over airline interviews to help prep for my interview. Let’s hope that will be worth it.

The hiring team both pilots and HR make you feel super comfortable and will answer any questions you have. Be yourself study the gouge and you will be just fine. One of the instructors dropped by the holding room while we waited and told us they will take every (good) candidate they can get.

Just out of curiosity, did you chose a december class date? They told me they would call when filling up for December classes.

Give them a call now. I was given choices for December and January. Went with January to give myself some room to build more time in case I need it.

Take the earliest date you can. You can always extend it out. But if you choose a later class date you can't always just move up to an earlier one.

You can extend it out once, but you can move it up as many times as you want. God forbid I have to extend once and it’s a month later lol

I see your point, but that kinda sucks for people like me who have the time, want the earliest class date and would like to factor in giving the current employer a min of 2 weeks of notice.

It’s is what it is, I guess..
