EWR and or LGA for a live in Base

An older friend (59/60 yrs old)who lives in NYC about 40 mins by public transit from EWR/LGA just got an FO class date. What’s the QOL, Reserve, and such for the above bases as an FO. Which one would you choose and why.

Thanks

EWR will be 100% UAL flying, LGA more variety. Each base has about the same amount of lines and crews with majority of crews going to both of those bases in upgrade bids. Honestly it would be whichever is easier to get to if it was me, even if the difference is just 20 minutes.

How far out are they booking classes for FO newhires nowadays?

He is not sure about how far out as he took the first class offered, 30 days out. Any idea on reserve time differences or later/earlier, longer/Shorter flight lines. Once off reserve, can he pick up open time at either bases (EWR or LGA)

thank you

Pretty sure anyone at those bases will be on reserve for up to a year…IND, CMH, SDF will get you more flying until you have enough seniority to hold a line.

Then again, current attrition could change things dramatically in just a few months.
