Holy cow. I had no idea things had escalated to that point. I guess I've had my head in the sand lately. Well this is a kick in the gut. I definitely don't want to be a scab so I guess I'll just sit tight where I'm at now and wait for the storm to subside. Thanks for the info.

To avoid those feelings, definitely don't apply to GOJET then.

As a new hire, you'll be put on probation for a year (if memory serves me correctly). If the union strikes...you'll either be fired or be a scab. Neither is good, but being fired is at least respectable. At any rate, you'll be right back at the beginning interviewing with another airline...if youre lucky.

I have nothing to gain by encouraging you to stay away, just speaking pilot to pilot.

Look elsewhere if you can.

Don't make any career decisions based on someone else's opinions. If you want to work for Republic then apply because everything is timing and luck in this business. Applying now could mean the difference between upgrading in 12-24 months or being a 6 year FO on 4 year pay just a sneeze away from reserve. Once you make your decision, don't look back and never have any regrets. By keeping a positive attitude you might even be able to tolerate the circus that is Republic.

We usually get a few new hires in PIT each class. Don't worry about it if you don't, you'll get to where you want to go eventually. And don't worry about all that strike talk. You can't make life decisions in this industry based on speculation.

Yes, the pilot group voted in favor of a strike, but the company can drag that process out by agreeing on a single item everytime and the mediator will think they're acting in good faith. They need 400+ guys this year. I swam in another tank before and the sharks here are not as bad as a lot of guys on here say. Most are waiting on the upgrade and can smell it but just can't taste it. The contract needs lots of work but it's better than some other carriers out there.

Does anyone know what Equip/bases/certs they are currently hiring into?

seattlepilot 03-08-2012 06:19 AM

It's a crap shoot. Wherever they need you that s where you will be. The airline is short of pilots , about 20-30/month leaving. Some midex guys took the recall

Expect cmh in all 3 certs pit/gso/ind on republic ord sdf on chq or ind on shuttle. Don't expect den on rw lga or atl on s5

We are also losing the ability of getting zed fares on all 3 certs so expectations for non rev travel should direct you to different airlines.

Another aspect to consider is the fact that our mechanics are looking into a union drive an most likely it will pass. There are lots of unhappy people here both on the pilot group and mechanics.

What are the chances of a new hire at Republic getting CLE or PIT? Are these two fairly junior? Would love to fly for Republic and be based in one of these two cities. Any and all info is appreciated.

Come to ExpressJet. Good chance of getting Cle base right out of training.

look, I was just reminding the person of the RISK here verses other places. Life is full of unknowns, but its best to keep the odds on your side. If Express Jet was hiring for the base I wanted, and knowing the risks here, I'd simply pursue the safer bet first.

Good luck to you and where ever you choose to invest the next several years of your life to.

But, but, but if I go to republic I'll fly a "real" airplane and that will help me move on to the majors!

Cool! I'm glad to hear ExpressJet is another possibility. Thanks for the info.
