Lased in the Flight Levels?

And yes, the people who actually employ lasers as weapons/designators use the terms "lase", "lased", etc. BTDT.

To lase, or lasing, is correct terminology, despite what you haven't heard.

As many of you recall I've been a minimizer of the effects of getting lased.
As (bad) luck would have it, after 10+ years without incident I was lased several weeks ago flying into Henderson... For those that haven't yet, it is NOT SUBTLE. You will definitely know you are being lased, the cockpit turned shimmering bright green, I near reflexively closed my eyes. I couldn't really make out where it was coming from and didn't really want to try to look, but I'd bet I could have gotten a general area if I looked out... I couldn't "see" the green through my closed eyes, so a couple times I opened them but it was still going on so I closed them again. I was on auto, hadn't started approach so that was good... Likely hand-held laser as couldn't really hold onto one spot well and lasted maybe 7 seconds total, then back to normal. Really really strange, not sure why anybody would want to do that. I didn't notice any "eye-burning" or any ill effects afterward.

For the record and those that don't know, you can report the laser strike without filing a full NASA report - saves a lot of time and can give the data to the FAA even if it is not a true "safety" concern.

Would love to hear some theories about this one. It's happened to me twice in the last few months. Cruising along in the mid-30s over central NM and again in west TX, and we get a brief green laser hit. It's one thing to get lased on final approach, but the Flight Levels? Seems to me that we're dealing something/someone with a lot more intent and sophistication than Bubba on his back patio with a laser pointer in one hand and a Budweiser in the other.
