Default Air India B787 crash

Ahmedabad to London, Dreamliner with 200+ people onboard

Video looks horrific.

Can any 787 pilot comment on how the flaps look?

Reported to be just after taking off to London. They were in the air a fair amount, 244 or so onboard.

If I didn't know better, It almost looks like they were on approach to a runway... Grainy video, so hard to see, but doesn't look like flaps were down at all? Sure sounds like at least one engine running, but again, can't really draw a conclusion from a cell phone video..

How very sad.

There's one video with a very distinct prop like sound and you can see the RAT deployed. Potentially a dual engine failure?

I don't see flaps either but the videos I've seen are poor fidelity so it's hard to tell, but it seems that wing is pretty clean. The 787 has a similar config warning to most other Boeings. It only tells you that there are no flaps extended, it does not check that you have the correct flap setting for your T/O. Rumor is the CA is a Line Check Captain and the FO had about 1000 hours.

Very sad indeed.

Same, although the videos I've seen it's very hard to tell but to me that wing looks pretty clean.

There appears to be a discrepancy in reporting as the Guardian reports crash occurred 5 mins after take off, yet the crash cite is maybe a mile at most from the departure end.

saw another photo online that showed the dark black smoke cloud with taxing airplanes in the foreground. Obviously can’t tell from the photo if that would have been approach or departure end.

One other thing, I don’t see any rudder input, as one would expect ifthere was a single engine failure?

Surely the 78 has configuration warnings to prevent a flaps up takeoff? I generally don’t like to speculate, just trying to make sense of what we can see. Early flap retraction?

Hopefully it works. The audio right at the beginning sounds like the RAT with just whooshing from the air. And you can very faintly see the RAT sticking out of the bottom.
