FAA issues fire warning for lithium batteries
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration proposed new regulations in January that would require lithium batteries be treated as hazardous cargo. Battery shipments would have to have special packaging and workers who ship them would have to receive special training. There would also have to be special labeling and pilots would have to told that their cargo contained lithium batteries.

They just keeping talking and talking about it and yet has anything changed???? These articles are a year old and a year later another plane goes down because of these batteries.

'Since 1991, more than 40 air transport-related incidents involving lithium batteries and devices powered by lithium batteries have been identified. Many of these incidents were directly related to the lack of awareness of the regulations, risks and required safety measures applicable to the shipment of lithium batteries.'

ALPA stresses it is not campaigning for new restrictions regulating the items passengers are permitted to bring onboard aircraft, rather the "world's largest non-governmental aviation safety organization is extremely concerned about the risk transporting lithium batteries aboard aircraft as cargo".
