Lined up on rwy edge lights for T/O

Incident: LAN A343 at Auckland on May 18th 2013, lined up with runway edge lights for takeoff

I lined up on the runway edge lights in San Diego one night because of sheer exhaustion, fortunately, I didn't continue the T/O. This was during the "reduced rest" day's of commuter flying.

Maybe its time to look at changing up the colors, sure this happened more than once....probably several times.

Or, just install lead on lights at every typical departure intersection; pretty hard to screw that one up. Might not be the most cost-effective solution but it will increase situational awareness.

This. The "enhanced markings" repainted in the past 5 years have made it a lot more clear, particularly at night. Obviously I'm a lot closer to the ground but I look for the paint for confirmation not just the lights before rolling.
