Correct. You'd use the ILS for 27L/9R, break off a mile or so, line up, and land on twy R (think it's Romeo). What was amazing to me while we were using the taxiway was the complete rebuild of 27L/9R in one month. And they took it down to the ground, removing the runway completely, and put in a new runway. One month. Wish they could be that fast on interstates.

I about crapped myself. Once we got airborne, the F/O looked over and said, "I guess I should have told you about that."
Ya think?

That's fine if you need to do that, but if everyone else starts refusing visuals in VMC too, it reduces the arrival acceptance rate. That means EDCT times get pushed out for everyone else, more delays for you, and an easier job for us (less traffic). ATC doesn't care at all if you want to play games like that.

I don't care for the "games" comment. If the conditions (whatever they may be) don't warrant accepting a visual, then that's our call. You don't have ANY skin in that "game". While I may not support a blanket refusal on all visuals, maybe Mr. notEnuf only flies into a few busy fields and that self-imposed restriction makes sense for him.
If I don't feel comfortable accepting a visual, the last thing I'm going to worry about is arrival rates or delays. Those are piddly-a$$ consequences when the alternative outcomes are considered. We've all heard the approach controller pimping guys to "call the field" so they can wash their hands of them as well as get the crew to shoulder 100% of the responsibility for separation, spacing, cloud clearance, etc. Considering this warning you offered on the previous page of this thread, maybe I'm not always ready to do your job for you on every approach.
And don't let that "something" be an assumption ATC is also watching you and would speak up. On a visual, once the landing sequence and separation from other traffic is established, there are cases where you may not be continuously monitored. .... Approach could clear them for the visual, turn them over to tower, and would have no reason to keep watching.

We should be able to make judgment calls about our particular circumstances, fatigue status, the field conditions, capability to maintain visual with our traffic and this list goes on......without being accused of "playing games". Rant over.

Avoiding potentially fatal or career ending accidents isn't a "game." This comment reinforces the need for ATC to have orientation rides in the jumpseat and step out from the abstract into real life (and death). "Does that LOOK like the traffic TRACON/Tower is calling out? Would you bet your career/life on it?"
