Do you have to be current to get hired?

T45Heinous, Let me know if you end up getting a call from SkyWest. I'm trying to judge how long it is taking them to get back to people. I really want the 175 so I don't want to go to some place before they have classes for it.

Contact App, I just ordered a yoke and X plane. I hope to get the scan going again before renting a plane at todays prices.

Does anyone know the best place around ORD to get recurrent?

I know of a few guys from World who were furloughed and got jobs at regionals without flying for a year. However, the LCCs and majors all want at least 50 hours in the last 12 months.

Might be a long time before new-hires get the E-175. Any openings would almost certainly be offered to old-hires first and since the E-175 pays slightly better than the CRJ-200 it's likely there will be enough takers from the ranks.

WILCO! I'm also waiting for my VA app to go through so I can knock out my ATP practical and get that finally done. Hopefully the warm-up flights flights prior will get my scan back to where it was. After 13 straight years in the cockpit, hopefully its not totally forgotten!

I wouldn't give up much seniority waiting for the E-175...it's not going to be appreciably different in terms of pay/schedule/QOL than the CRJ. Also you have a lot more basing options on the CRJ.

Just in case anyone had any misconceptions, E-175 time is not going to be any more career-enhancing than any other kind of RJ (unless you're looking at some overseas E-175 contract work, in that case they do usually want type-specific experience).

Quote: I would get current to some degree, just to make sure you don't end up busting a training event. If you've never taken a long break from aviation before you might be surprised at how hard it is to get back in the groove.
I've heard quite the opposite. Probably depends on what airplane your getting back "in the groove" on. I've spoken to a few FSI instructors lately who've trained guys that have been parked for years and the first few sim's are a cluster F, but it comes back pretty quick if you have a fair amount of time. I have 8k hours and have never had a problem with training events. Everyone is different. If I was being trained on a 747 100-200 again after being grounded for 4 years, then it might be another story.

T45, it took me 2 weeks between app submitted and phone call from SKW, which ironically happened the night of NYE. Thankfully I hadn't started drinking much yet when the recruiter called. I'm not current either, but I do have my ATP multi-engine, so maybe that's a sticking point at the moment? I also went to the Vegas Job Fair and spoke with a different recruiter at SKW, so if you can make it to a job fair somewhere and get some face time, that might help get your foot in the door.

How much current time do I need to get for a regional interview? I'm guessing I at least need an instrument competency check. I have over 10,000 hours total but 0 in the last year.

Also do Skywest, Mesa, American Eagle, and Republic have training contracts? If they do, does anyone have details on how much the are if you leave early. I want to be based in ORD, so I'm interested in any company that has a base there.

Thanks in advance for any help.
You will get interview calls in less than a week if you fill out airline apps.com / apply to any regional. I haven't flown for 6 YEARS, 8700TT 2500 PIC and a few type ratings. Did NOT get current, got a medical, filled out airline apps.com and got 6 regionals calling me. Had an interview last wednesday and was offered the job. There was an Army retired King Air driver who hadn't touched an airplane for 5 years and mostly helo time. The only company that sent me a courtesy email was Skywest saying you need to get current and to let them know when i do. Im sure ORD will be an easy base to get with any of those companies, As far as training contracts, you will need to ask each company or check website - Mesa does, Eagle you will have to pay back the bonus, not sure on RAH or Skywest. some are listed on the airline profiles on this website. PM me if u need any information. You will need to study though! Many of them use the Delta written test but have lowered the pass rate.
