Anyone know if Asiana flies leg lengths such as this with an augmented crew or not?

I hope they dont rely on an ILS G/S everytime they fly!
My guess is you have never flown as an expat for any of the Asian carriers.

My speculation is mis-calculated slower landing speeds with the autopilot coupled to the faulty glide slope, possibly autoland gone wrong?

I'm just glad to see survivors and the fact the United 747 abeam 28L didn't get affected.

Quote: United crew that was holding short of 28L had a front row seat. UAL needed a few more minutes and was told to hold short of 28L. I missed that connection initially!

That view must have been spooky close. Those guys are going to be the best source of witness information.

What are you basing such speculation on? Pretty sure the 777 calculates the approach speeds for you, so that's probably out. G/S was NOTAMed out, so unlikely they would try to use it for autoland. Even if they tried, there'd be enough bells and whistles well prior to the overrun to let them know that it was a bad idea.

Gawd the guy on CNN right now is such an idiot. He can't even pronounce the name of the airline right.

Should have heard the reporter "expert" on MSNBC taking about flying his 777 in SFO on Microsoft Flight Simulator this morning

Since CNN has reported with their "Experts" I guess a Sole Source ASAP report is out of the question.

Autoland won't arm if it doesn't have a LOC and G/S capture.

They could have built a VNAV vertical path to the runway but that won't autoland.
