I’m not a long haul guy, but I was wondering what flights United cancelled due to Russian airspace being off limits. I saw that United cancelled SFO-DEL and EWR-BOM. Did United flat out cancel any other flights?

Also, what flights are severely affected by the Russian airspace closure (adding 30+ minutes of flight time each way)? I don’t think I’ve seen any tech stops yet.

India flights are the only cancellations, if Asia was open those flights would take a hit too.

I think it really would be a matter of economics. I believe all the EWR or IAD to India are possible without Russian airspace. It just takes longer and costs more. Worst case is a tech stop for fuel. If the ticket prices are high enough and the demand is there, I think they would do it.
Same with Asia and Australia. All are possible from the west coast. Someone in EWR will just have to connect through SFO or LAX.

Coming back from India, around Russia in the winter, will almost always require a tech stop. If that is pre-planned it becomes a duty time issue (contractual).

Contractual...for the flight attendants, FRMS for the pilots.

I guess you could do a crew change at the tech stop. Again, if the fares support it, the company will do it.

That's been done before...in Germany...I think it's being looked at. Without Russia though, the passengers could end up sitting on the airplane for 18-20 hours....I think that's also a consideration.

Still flying to Delhi from ORD and EWR only. Mumbai has been suspended for the time being and SFO-DEL is on hold as well.

Don't let your guard down. Many of you millennials don't have a clue what it's like to live through 9-11.
