The vagabond family is on the move again. We so enjoyed the Transatlantic cruise last year that we are doing it again in a few months. So for someone who has never been to Miami before, I'll be there for the third time in 17 months!

The ship docks in BCN and we are planning to take the TGV to Paris. Has anyone done that before? I read there is no need to take and no difference between First Class and Second Class, but to be sure to go on the upper deck if possible.

From Paris, we plan to ride the rails to Basel and Zurich. Has anyone done that as well?

Should I buy the tickets online from home?

Spring in Paris. Can't beat that.

For sightseeing, I don't really like high-speed trains. Windows can't be opened, there is less "elbow room", and the train frequently has to slow down anyway for track or traffic conditions. (Same thing with boats -- you probably remember Seattle's grand old "Princess Marguerite", which was far better than what replaced it.)

Hi, I'm not sure that you can save money by purchasing tickets prior to travel. Also, if your travel plans change you'll have to rebook.

The major point here is to be sure to look at visiting Lucerne, Grindelwald and Interlaken. All of them are close to Zurich. You'll find them to be some of the most beautiful places in world.

Try seat61.com and RickSteves.com. Depending on what you want to do there are some options that are cheaper if you buy before you go. The rail system within Switzerland if very efficient and easy to use. A Swiss rail pass will also include most busses, boats and a lot of museums. Enjoy!

I agree with mark hughes about Grindelwald and Interlaken. Didn't make it to Lucerne. Took the scenic train Interlaken to Laken Geneva then on to Zurich in a few hours. PM if you need more info within Switzerland
