Guys I'm looking for a replacement as a CFI. Currently I do 4 flights a day. This is for the airforce. The company bills $27.50 an hour and pays you $25 per hour. For each student you get:
17hrs pre/post instruction
25hrs ground
25hrs flight
=========
$1675 per student before tax. Takes normally 6weeks to get them all 25 of their hours.

I am starting 4 new students now with another 4 after this group. These are guaranteed students. After that there are no more guarantees. However, the program was supposed to be closed down Oct 1, 2006 and they keep sending me more and more. Personally I expect more students. Reason being as you get a new batch after each graduating class from college. When May rolls around you should be getting a new batch of several more. I'm one of the last places in the country doing this program because of my close proximity to Laughlin AFB.

If you're wanting extremely intelligent students, very motivated(they already have pilot slots and now have to keep them), and non-stop flying then send me a PM. If I don't get any I'm going to post on the web.

Location is Del Rio, Texas. The airport is about 1mile from the bordertown of Acuna on the mexico side. If you enjoy margaritas or mexican beer/food then you'll find the place heaven.

Requirements for the job are CFI and a regular multi-engine. I'll give you the high altitude endorsement if needed. The boss who owns the FBO has a Merlin you'll be needed to fly on occasion. If here for a year you can expect 100-200hrs in it reasonably. You can find housing easily for $350/month.

I think eventually the USAF is trying to do all of this at Pueblo (or right at USAFA for those grads): IFS
But looks like a good gig while it lasts, especially with the chance to get a little Merlin time.

That sounds like a decent instructor position. I'm in Dallas now and I dont think I'll be staying here when I finish my cfi training. These instructors dont make crap up here. I was talking to the cheif cfi out at Midland College and he told me they would hire me on at $30/hr and I would work at least 25 to 30 hrs a week. Big difference from Dallas, they make like 17/hr here.

Work with them long enough and you'll learn a few things. #1 is never believe anything you read. #2 never believe that anything will start on time. I've said from day one that Pueblo idea is as stupid as they come and a year later I'm still standing by it. They contacted me yesterday with enough students for another year.

Here's another tip from a crusty pilot: The military has a way of reinventing the wheel...as in senior leadership changing things back to the way they were and then taking credit for a brilliant idea. Kinda like the AT-38's being farmed out to the UPT bases and then deciding to (re)consolidate them at Moody AFB. Kinda like closing down the aggressor squadrons and now starting up a new one at Elemendorf. And yes, kinda like halting flight screening (on account of the T-3 debacle), restarting it as a PPL program, and now migrating back towards a two location setup:
USAFA & Pueblo is very similar to the USAFA & Hondo.

Forewarned is forearmed, flexibility is the key to airpower... and indecision is the key to flexibility.

USAFA's program ends as of 01 Sep...No more AFS at the zoo. All screening will take place at Pueblo but it will be another 1-2 years before they are ramped up to full capacity (if then).
