Quote: i flew with a capt once that was completly by the book. he is a great guy but flies by the numbers and i ended up doing it to because thats how he wanted it done. ended up paying off big time a couple of weeks later when we had an emergency on take off.
Yeah I like to fly by the book most of the time...it's good practice for PC's, emergencies, or even worse, that unexpected fed in the jumpseat

No company will can you after a couple of mistakes while on probation, short of bending metal etc., that said fly straight and keep your head out of your A#$ and you should be fine. The company spent a lot of time and money to get you to the line they dont want to lose that money.

Quote: Ok folks. I am looking for comparisons on how new hires are treated on probation. Most of us know that at Eagle, while in initial training you have the 3 strikes your out policy. If, during your probie ride, which is 10mths into your 12mth probation, you bust, that is, again, 1 of 3 allowed strikes against you. HOWEVER. If you make an error on the line, when you are working, they can fire you at will. Which, they seem to like to do, as they are so worried about liablility issues. I have heard other regionals are not like that. I have heard that others will train to proficiency, and if you make an error on the line, assuming it's not catastrophic, they will retrain you, or just counsel you on how to improve. Is Eagle really the only commuter that is quick to fire their new hires during their one year probabtion?
They're so hard up for pilots now I'm sure it's up near 6 strikes these days..

Ok, that is SO wrong. Eagle will, and DOES release probies for ANYTHING!!!! What happened to me was MINOR. No FAR broke, no a/c damage, no ATC emergency. My cptn and I missed an item on a checklist. He has a job, I don't. Because I was on probation. The problem has happened MANY times at the company before, and will happen again. If it happened to me AFTER probation, I would have my job. It happened ON probation. Therefore, I don't have a job. They don't care about the $40K they spent on training you. It was purely a corporate decision. They have rules, and they follow them. They don't look outside the box.

How did they find out you missed an item on the checklist? Did the CA turn you in for that? I just have a hard time believing that they would fire you for something that little. Was there anything else?

If I had to guess, the Gear Pins on the EMB. Easy to get complacent about those things, and almost inexcusable (by mgmt n such) if you forget them.

Ahh well I can see that, I would guess a return to the airport for missing gear pins would get the companies attention. THAT is kinda a big thing, as that basically means you did not do a very good pre-flight.

I would guess TO attempted out of configuration, causing an abort.
