This may sound like a dumb question but do the regionals provide raincoats or cold weather jackets? What do u wear when u are pre flighting at O Hare in the dead of winter or out on the ramp in soggy Seattle?

"provide" and uniform budget are different. But some companies have leather jackets and some have trench coats. Some have both

I bought the leather jacket and it's worth every dollar I paid for it. I've worn it many times in windy, sub zero temps in DTW and MSP and stay warm. That's even with a short sleeve pilot shirt underneath. It's also waterproof and will last for years.
Allot of guys wear a trenchcoat, which is also warm and cozy, but most airlines require the hat with it.
There's also the pull over sweater with epaulets for cooler weather. Downside to those is no protection from the rain.

They generally all provide you the option of buying a blazer, leather jacket, and/or trenchcoat. Some allow you to buy a fleece or shell jacket, or a sweater.

Seems to be that a leather jacket wouldn't keep your legs dry or out of the wind and a trench coat would.

Most now issue you a North Face jacket.

God forbid you wear something that's been in style sometime after 1954 and actually keeps you warm and dry.

God forbid you actually act like a professional and abide by your company policies. 1. If it's part of your company uniform, go for it. If not, don't. Your FOM is an FAA signed document. I'm pretty sure SWA has made it an optional item with epilates.
2. Wearing a uniform does have a safety aspect. During an evacuation pax and emergency personnel will go to you for guidance. A captain who once had to perform an evacuation commented on this to me. Most pax naturally congregated around him as soon as he got off the airplane and emergency personnel immediately came up to him and asked him for pax count. They knew who the captain was by his uniform.
3. The airline uniform has been standard long before I was born, which is probably before you were born. Some have changed recently due to mergers, but I guarantee your airline had a uniform policy when you were hired and I can also guarantee you didn't raise any objections to it. If someone is paying your check and wants you to wear a uniform, wear the uniform.

Being a professional is trying to do the right thing all the time, not just when it suits you. Doing even the little things right, not deciding for yourself which policies you will follow and which ones you won't.

Personally,I wear the company issued streaker jacket and bellman's hat. I do the stupid **** that's in our FOM because I agree with you, and because the people that sign my paycheck want it done that way.

I'm just not going to be condescending to someone else who doesn't like to dress up like a Halloween costume and prefers to wear something that will actually help them stay warm and dry in the elements.
