DC commute

Are there many DC commuters for JetBlue to JFK? It's relatively close (even possible to take the train in an emergency), tons of flights from DCA and IAD. Doesn't seem terribly difficult. Any hidden gotchas in trying to do this?

There’s a double top secret DCA base for the 190! (JK sort of) We have a bunch of commuters from DCA to JFK/BOS, seems pretty easy, I even two leg my commute through DCA on occasion.

Oh, almost forgot there’s a couple legacies with bases in DC and also FUPM!!!

Yes. Basically anything counts against you with the "commuter policy". Look in the FSM or BlueBook to see how an out of position, emergency, missed trip, and so on, all count against you in some nebulous, mostly undefined way. The commuter policy is not your friend. It can do nothing to protect you. It can only hurt you. It's just a "guide". If you get an Out of Position (OOP) even while following the Commuter Policy, it still counts against you via the Dependability Policy.

If you plan to stay at BJ forever, make sure it's truly commutable. You are always ONE incident/accident/allegation away from being on the chief pilot's radar.

The DCA/BWI/IAD area has the largest number of crewmembers not living in a base. I have always commuted to BOS from DCA and sometimes IAD but IAD times stink. I don’t know many that go DCA JFK if you are going JFK they tend to go out of IAD. Tons of flights for BOS and lots of commuters. Things have been better because passengers can’t hop on the earlier flight without paying which made things very unpredictable. If you are on the 190 there are a TON of DCA overnights. It’s not busy enough to be a base but it’s an easy commute.

DCA-BOS > DCA-JFK.

AA, UAL, SWA > JB
(obviously that isn't an exhaustive list, but very DC specific)
