Other than a few people who have been offered classes at the interview, how long has it taken people to get the yes or no email? I’m talking about the past month or so since there have been some personnel changes in pilot recruitment.

Quote: He's a coworker of mine and I think I understand what he was trying to get at. If they run the classes split in August like they did in July, the folks with heavy time (like me and him) might be put into the same aircraft (747/MD) that the heavy time folks were given in July. The split RJ time class was given 757/767, or all domestic for reasons that seem to point to prior experience. Prior experience did force people into aircraft in July and I beleive he was trying to say that he'd be forced into the 747 if they split the classes once again.
Your perspective is spot on and I suspect that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.
FS2 however is correct in his/her assumption that there are no assumptions here. LOL!
In the past, if you had heavy jet experience you’d end up on the smallest jet we had. If you lived in California you’re almost guaranteed to be based in Miami and if you lived in Florida you’d end up in Ontario. No joke, just ask around.

Nowadays new-hires get to bid. HOWEVER, the company seems to have found a way around new-hires’ ability to bid specific aircraft/domiciles.
In a way, and especially from training perspective it makes sense. Someone who’s current and qualified on 74 or MD probably should go to the 74 or MD. It’s logical. A year later, when off probation they can bid wherever they want.

Hope you all get what you want but if you don’t, just do your best and before you know it you’ll be transitioning to your preferred fleet/domicile.

Just so there is no confusion for new hires the initial seat lock is 18 months. Keep in mind training bids are happening twice a year so depending on the timing it could be
up to 3 years in the initial seat.

To be clear you cannot bid until 18 months pass or you cannot start training until 18 months or is it the effective date on the vacancy? What exactly is 18 months?

Good question. 18 months from day 1 to the closing date of the training bid.

This is incorrect. It is 18 months from day 1 to the closing of the bid. Not the closing date of the training bid or the effective date as some have stated. As long as you have been here for 18 months and that date is prior to the closing of the vacancy bid, you’re good to go.

Ask me how I know...

18 months from DOH. I had a friend who was not awarded a bid because of this during June system bid. The June system bid has an effective date of Jan 29, 2019, but order to be eligible, your seat lock must of been up by the closing date of the system bid. He was hired Mar ‘17, so this is how it could be much longer that 18 months. Say next system baby comes out in January with an effective date sometime in the summer, that means his 18 month seat lock is really over two years, maybe more.
