Type Y/N? and B737 type at CPT

Subscribe
Was looking for feedback as to the folks at Crew Pilot Training/CPT and their 737 type course. It appears to be budget friendly but before I pull the trigger I wanted some audience feedback.

I know "SWA does not require it" but in light of my belief that SWA has no applicant shortage and many qualified dudes are out there, I feel this is a way to make my app stand out, especially in light of computer based screening systems.

I am otherwise qualified (hate to sound like I am boasting, but...) with

Good
4 year degree
Partial MBA completed

Director of Safety
Director of Training
Lead Check Airman (over other check airmen)
5800 TT. 2000 Turboprop PIC.

Two types, ATP
International experience
Fluent Spanish Speaker
Most of career at large Part 91 department with rigid structure and robust training program
Have a few SWA pilots and non-pilots (business office, marketing, etc) who will provide LOR's
Plan to work with Ms. R.K. for resume/app prep stuff
Volunteer Work
No accidents/incidents (like 99.9% of all the other applicants)

Negative
No "pure jet" time

No 121 time
Good/Yes 135 time (hauling cancelled checks in 1995)
Public high school graduate

Get the type ? (yes I can afford it, but if I can avoid spending $12k then obviously that is preferred)

Anyone used CPT Crew Pilot Training ?

Other advice ?

SWA #1 target airline !!!

Thank you

Apply!

Your Jet time won’t change by getting a type which you don’t fly. Will it give you some points? Sure. Will it help you pass the interview? No.

I say save your money and spend a much smaller amount to polish your resume and work on your interview delivery.

$12,000 lottery ticket. Nope.

Go ahead and get the resume polish and interview prep.

Then apply at AA, DAL, UAL, FedEx, UPS, and JetBlue.

Your number 1 choice should be the first one who calls you and puts you on the seniority list. Time is money!

In my class earlier this year, out of 28 pilots, only 5 had the type. IMO, you should save the money and just apply and update VERY regularly.

Good luck!

New hire training at SWA now set up for people without type rating. I’ve heard instructors would rather have you know nothing than the wrong flows etc. Put a 737 rating on your resume now and everyone else knows you are going to try to leave. A type without time is really not worth it. Apply at big 6, consider cheap 4 (F9, G4, B6, NK), see if you qualify for DEC at a regional.

(I’m not at WN, but my SO is)

Up until 2 years ago, it made a big difference. Not so much anymore.

Thank you sir, good info

Bold: Not a factor at my place, I face retirement/separation in 2 years. Everyone in my position/24 months from retirement is doing various "beef up the resume"/polish things up job prep actions

Ha, I meant more the places you would be applying besides SWA, but that is a good point too, even if it doesn’t apply to you.
