We get ourselves to training initially? Yikes, a plane ticket on one's own dime when trying to save up just to afford training pay sounds a little rough. Have any previous trainees found ways to make this step a little more doable? Do many people drive to training?

Depends where you live. I bought a cheapo fare on southwest. Company took care of everything after that day.

Your previous company didn't immediately turn off your benefits or want your company ID back? Maybe I could shoot for that...

They used to reimburse you $100, not sure if that is still happening.

777 or 767
For those who were given a choice, why did you pick one aircraft type over the other?
Thanks

I bid my schedule at the old company so I had no flying the first half of the month. I was at Omni for nearly two weeks before I officially left the old company. Just mailed back the ID.

There were no choices with our group. We were told where we were going.
I believe they choose who goes where from looking at your previous experience. If you’ve got 737 time or bigger they will generally put you on the triple. Those with smaller aircraft experience were sent to the 76.
At least that’s how we figured it with our class.

I’m pretty new. Our class had the option of either plane. 12 in training and 6 went to each type. It was our choice, done by age. An old rule of thumb was the larger fleet had the most variety. That rule seems to hold true here as well. Can’t really go wrong with either, but the 767 does have more variety. It’s a good company, great co-workers, and challenging global flying. MX is well above average too. It’s a Great place to be, you’ll enjoy it.

Look at the pay rates for other ACMI’s and even some majors for first year pay. Things could be worse. Looks like they have a car for you to use too.
