First Year FO reserves
Reserves are flying 30-60 hours; however, we are coming off the busy summer season. It will most likely be less heading into the fall. You usually know that you will be flying the day before, except when weather causes a shuffle and you get the call at 3am when your reserve starts.

Most trips are 3/4 days, but there are some day trips that float around opentime. Living 2 hours away is a comfortable distance to make a 3 hours “at the aircraft ready to depart” last minute reserve assignment (just have your bag packed and ready).

Does anyone know the time to hold a line in DTW/ORD? I am currently in the hiring pool and expecting a November class date. I live in northern NJ and my drive time to ACY is anywhere from 2hr20m up to 3hrs. I'm a little to far north to make the reserve time. I am about 50 minutes from KEWR, would it make more sense to just commute to another base?

Surely you can find a good "camping" spot, like a Starbucks, that gets you close enough to ACY to make report times, but lets you sleep in your own bed.

I would say 95% of the time on reserve here you will know about the reserve assignment the night before. They will put a NTY on your schedule or the actual trip the night before. Sometimes they call you the day before and then you are released until showtime.

Experience must vary between bases because more then half the time I get called at 3am rather then the night before.

Then your the victim of an abnormal amount of R03 sick calls...it’s in they’re best interest to attempt to get you notified the night prior within the confines of the CBA... they ALWAYS attempt to cover the next days OT when the afternoon shift comes in at 2pm EST.
