7-9 months to reliably hold at least a relief line. I'm five months on property and a couple classes back from the most junior relief lines.

Thanks. And what is a relief line exactly? Sorry, new to all this...

It's a line made up partially of reserve days and partially of trips. I don't know what the overall ratio typically is between trips and reserve. I haven't got any experience from which to tell you.

You can ask for no reserve on a relief line. Or certain days off. Or certain kinds of trips. And you can drop the whole thing if you don’t like what is sent to you and he reserve grid supports it. They offer a lot of flexibility.

Not exactly, the arbitration award made dropping reserve while you’re a relief holder just like reserve line holders (only one block, outside in, etc...) The way one way around it is to swap the reserve for a trip, then subsequently drop the trip if it’s green. If there’s no trip to swap into, you’re SOL.

This is true. I guess I’ve never had a bunch of reserve on a REL line so I haven’t thought about it.

The company has no obligation to offer relief lines when we switch to pbs. They may or may not exist moving forward

The only contractual thing you can request on a REL is a specific block of days off. Asking for “no reserve” on a REL line is as effective as placing a tooth under your pillow for the tooth fairy to come. Same goes for asking for “certain kids of trips”

And others have said, you can’t drop reserve on relief lines. You’ll have to swap into a trip and drop the trip if it’s green.

Where did you even get this information? Because is nowhere in our contract and only sets people up for anger and disappointment when they don’t “get” what they requested.

You can drop reserve on a relief line, but only 1 block (if green) and outside in OR trade it for a trip in DOT.

In general a relief line, today, offers more flexibility than a reserve line.
