I didn’t know that’s what they meant, because when I heard it, it was in the context of growth out of LGB and it was at a pilot meeting. It was also said that the company would like to avoid co-bases and that slot limits at LGB would limit the growth that was possible. Which to me means that even LAX flying would go to FLL and JFK just as BUR and ONT did. These are facts, not speculation or hopeful attitudes. Another fact is that even when AMR pulled out of LGB those hours went to JFK and FLL.
Even more discouraging than these obvious indicators is that we have never been given a detailed rationale that explains WHY the base numbers are OPTIMAL. We get cryptic one liners with absolutely no substance. What comes first the chicken or the egg? Could we come up with an optimized base solution on our own that could be shown to save millions over the current solution? If so, then the question of base size becomes much broader.
Whether or not this response is negative or harsh is irrelevant. Let’s not get side tracked like we always do with what is a good and a bad attitude or who is "blue" and who is not.
What is important is that people (particularly those weighing a decision to come to Jetblue or another carrier like Continental or Fedex) be given good information that is free from irrational exuberance. Because that is how a lot of people made bad decisions to begin with.
