Can someone point me to the reference in regards to calling in sick, then well on a day that encompasses the sick call and WS trips? I feel like someone told me you can get the original credit via sick bank and also WS to receive credit on top of the sick time. That doesn’t really sound right though....

Here's how it works:

Let's say you call in sick for a four day (21:00 trip) April 1-4. 21 hours is immediately deducted from your sick bank, and you receive full pay for the trip as if you had flown it. Then let's say you call in well on the 2nd, and white slip another four day (21:00 trip) April 3-6. On the overlapping days (April 3 and 4), whatever block time you flew on those days will be re-credited back to your sick bank. Once the rotation closes, you will receive 21:00 minus the block time from April 3-4 that replenished your sick bank.

Ahhhhh, that makes more sense now. Thanks very much for the explanation!

Since that is resolved I'd like to piggy back on this topic. What about reserves? Depending on ALV I get roughly 4:30 pay per day of RES. What happens if I sick out of a high credit 4 day trip on day 3? I've already worked 3 days, so am I charged sick leave at the rate of 4:30 for every day I'm sick beginning on what would've been day 4 of the trip, or am I charged sick leave for the balance of the trip I was assigned? If numbers make it easy
Day 1: 1 hour block
Day 2: 30 hour layover
Day 3: 1 hour block then sick
Day 4: sick
Day 5: well

Am I going to be charged 19 hours of sick leave or 4:30 for this scenario?

I called in sick mid-rotation once while on reserve. It was a few years ago, but if I remember, I was credited/docked for a pro-rata portion based on days flown, not block flown.

I am 99% sure the reserve pro rata deduction only applies if you call out sick BEFORE you report for the trip. After you have reported, it is treated the same as a REG pilot who calls out mid rotation.
At least that’s how mine was handled a couple months ago.
Edit to clarify, so I am claiming Mr. Solo will have 19 hours deducted from his bank in that scenario.

Yeah, I've sicked out on RES after being assigned a trip but before I signed in and I was charged as if I'd never been assigned the trip. I've never sicked out mid-rotation but I suspect you're correct.

Pretty sure you don’t get 4:30 a day on Reserve. That’s why you get a muncher higher number when you have vacation during a reserve month. Reserve rate is reserve guarantee divided by month (30/31).

Yes you do. Let's say you have 17 reserve days and ALV is 80. You get 78/17 which is about 4.6hrs.

I still disagree. Use the PBS calculator for a month with CQ or vacation. Better yet, call ALPA scheduling or ask Shawn on Facebook.
