What’s the craziest commute/lifestyle anyone’s ever heard of at a Frac?

Cabin 5 hours up in the mountains?
Island in the Bahamas?
Full time RV folks?

Had one pilot at NJA I flew with that lived in a ski village in the Canadian Rockies. His wife was a photographer there. He drove 4-5 hours to Spokane, WA to catch his airline. He was in the program where you can cross the border fairly quickly.

I've also heard of pilots who live in a RV and change bases every month or two. Usually their spouses drive the RV to the new base that they return from at the end of a trip. Great way to see the USA if you don't mind the nomadic lifestyle.

One Phenom CA lived in Mexico, was I believe, PSP based.

I knew of a few guys that lived in crazy part of the country. Would take HOURS to get to work driving, then usually it was a CLS to a commercial airport for the airline. Sometimes the plane would be waiting for them usually not. Anyway, this place was a third world country well within the borders of the US. It is a crazy place, people all hours of the day, traffic is a nightmare no matter what the time of day. Police rarely stopped the organized crime syndicates that are present. Smelled bad too. Horrible place.

Of course I’m talking of the TEB based guys...horrible commute to work.

I know a couple of guys commute from Alaska to SEA. Not really crazy but choosing to commute does negate one of the benefits of working at NJA (IMHO of course).

A friend spent most of last year commuting back and forth between Italy and New York. If you’re willing to fly coach, book round trip tickets in advance, and have a place to hang your hat in base at the front and back end of the commute (he did), I suppose it’s doable. As much as I LOVE Italy, I don’t think I could do that.

I’ve heard of a guy that lives in the Cayman’s that commutes to MIA.

Heard of/flown with a couple guys that do the full time RV thing.

Some guys snow bird.

With the basing system being what it is I’d suspect there are some pretty interesting stories...

One of our flight attendants has a house in Puerto Rico.... He commutes back and forth to FLL and stays with his parents in Florida when he gets stuck stateside.

He told me most of the time he can catch a ride home on a dummy ticket but always has to buy a one-way ticket on the way to work....
