Quote: Respectfully disagree. It’s not a matter of “gotta have it now” it’s a matter of reality. Being the last one to finish the race there might not be any water left to drink. An exaggeration of course but I’ve known pilots that were low on the totem pole and got furloughed for years and some never got back before the golden age of retirement. Why take the chance of being in that position if you don’t have to?
You're going to get furloughed. Bank on it.

The economy will take a drastic downturn. Know it.

You'll likely get merged, and there's a high probability that one or more airlines for whom you work will go under. Plan on it.

I've been doing this for a long, long time. Longer than many retirees, because I started earlier. I've also done a good share of what there is to do in aviation at this point, and you need to know that there is no flight which must be made, and there is no job which must be taken, and there is no such thing as job security. Not in aviation.

You're quite sure you know all about it. I won't be alive when you have the experience to know better, but reflect back on this post and think about how much you didn't know.

If only I had a penny or a buck or ten for every hotshot that posted here and there, who said he was different, didn't have the time to follow the route everyone else did, gotta get that shiny jet now, dontchaknow, man, seniority is the edge of the flat earth and if I don't grab it the music will end and I won't have a chair like the cool kids?

I'm here to tell you that the music will end, more than once in your career, and you'll learn to play on with out the chair. Been there, done that. More times than I can remember any more.

You will, too.
